Meet Jim Trotta Davis (Suburbanoid) | Music composer-artist/Sound meditation facilitator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jim Trotta Davis (Suburbanoid) and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jim Trotta, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I was born in Queens, NY. My family had a lot to do with me getting into music. My grandfather played multiple instruments and my Dad played a little guitar. I started playing on my grandparent’s piano around 9 years old and also played on guitars around the house. I got my first electric guitar when I was around 12 years.
At 19 years old I was teaching guitar and piano at the Queensboro Music Institute. Over 20 years ago I took a meditation course at a local college in New Orleans. During this time I began composing music to help me meditate. In 2008 after fleeing from Hurricane Katrina. We landed in Ojai and started a relationship with Meditation Mount. I recorded my first album of meditation music called “Lite Roast. This began my music career in this style and led me to where I am now.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started creating music at a very young age and experimented for over 15 years to find my unique style. It took complete dedication and a lot of self-assurance to weather the criticism and discouragement. My dedication was to the music and art and not the career. It was about 20 years ago I started creating in a style that became my own.
I began composing music to help me meditate and relax. Over the years I fine-tuned my style of music to where it is today.
I currently have a new album released by APM Music (Associated Production Music) called Suburbanoid Sound Bath Meditations. This album contains 22 peaceful relaxing music compositions featuring the Fusion Sitar, Tibetian Singing Bowls, guitar with ebow, koshi chimes, gong, sound drones, and vocals. It is now available through APM Music for music sync needs in all productions. I also perform sound bath meditations every week at Meditation Mount in Ojai CA.
This experience allows people to take a moment in their busy lives to relax, reset, and recharge themselves. Helping them to release stress and feel more peaceful.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I currently live in Santa Barbara but I love LA. I lived in Malibu for a while and worked in Venice Beach. When friends come to town we love to take them to Venice, Santa Monica, Malibu, Ojai, Ventura and Santa Barbara. Some of the places we like are the farmers markets, a great place to get produce, Bay Cities Italian Deli, Tehran Market, and Huckleberry Bakery in Santa Monica, Rice by Mama in Ventura, Meditation Mount, Beatrice Wood Center of the Arts and Libby park in Ojai, Butterfly Beach in Santa Barbara, Venice boardwalk, Venice canals, and Abbot Kinney Boulevard, West Hollywood, Chinatown, Koreatown, Japantown, Griffith Park, Malibu beaches, Malibu seafood restaurant and Marina del Rey to name a few.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Some of the people and organizations that have helped me in my music career. First is my wife Bettie of Betties Baked. She has always encouraged, helped, and supported me in many ways. She is truly my muse. Others are my grandparents and parents for their support during my childhood, Beatrice Wood Center for the Arts, Meditation Mount, Yamaha Artist Showcase, APM Music (Associated Production Music) , Hans-Joachim Roedelius (composer), McCabe‘s guitar in Santa Monica and many others who believe in the music I create.
