We had the good fortune of connecting with Shih Hung CJ Hsu and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shih Hung CJ, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
Hi, here is CJ, I’m from Taiwan, As an Asian, I consider myself quite fortunate. Most traditional Asian families typically do not encourage their children to pursue a career in music. However, my family is a bit special. They have been very supportive of me since I was little. My father also played the guitar when he was young. I think he was pretty good, but he didn’t have the opportunity to study abroad. Now he has somewhat passed on his dream to me, which is good because I also love music. I am grateful to have this kinda opportunity to study music with the full support of my family.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
In the past of seven years, as a student or teacher, I’m so grateful every single person show up in my life. no matter is good or bad, the funniest thing about teaching is that I can always learn some new stuff from them, maybe is about a language or the way they thought about the world, that always impresses me, that’s why I believe that everyone on the world will be some I can learn from no matter they are good or bad.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If we talking about here in LA, I always bring my friends to go to Laguna Beach, I think this is the quickest way they can really feel the vibe in here, the food in here is perfect, hate to say this but way better then Hollywood.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I grow up in a family who also love 80’s rock, the first song I learn on the guitar is called “Its’ My Life” by Bon Jovi, and that took me two weeks to play just thought the first chorus, back in the day when I was 14, I don’t really know how to use Youtube, so I’ll pick a guitar cover video and play it over and over again until I can at least make a sound kinda like it, is hard but is also fun. Bon Jovi is like a mentor to me, from those songs I can really feel the energy and so positive about life about God, I can really feel it from their songs.
