We had the good fortune of connecting with Quinn Vasileva and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Quinn, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursued an artistic career because it’s something that allows me to do everything that I love without confining me. By that I mean that I am someone that always wants to do different things, and I always explore new horizons. Being an artist means that I can wear different hats. Working in the creative field means that I am always learning new things, which is something important to me.

To me, stories are home. I grew up reading, so stories have always been by my side, so to say. I want to give others the same opportunity. I would love for my stories, whether visual or on paper, to be a home for someone. You never know who might need it. Being a creative gives me the opportunity to weave worlds and express myself through them. I want to inspire others and give them the courage to do the same.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am definitely the type of creative who wears multiple hats. I love learning new things. I am an actor and writer first, but I also like producing. Lately, I’ve been working in casting as well. I always try to make sure that I am knowledgeable about the different roles in filmmaking, and not only. There is no film set without a crew, and each person has a specific role. Communication is crucial on set. Everyone is working towards achieving the vision of a film. If a crew member doesn’t know what someone else does, things will be much harder. Ask anybody who has worked in the industry for a while.

I’m proud of my journey as an artist. I am not where I want to be yet, far from it, but I have expanded my horizons and gained more confidence. It hasn’t been easy, but I have worked hard from the start. I am a perfectionist, which has its perks, but also downsides. It’s something that reminds me what I am capable of, in a way. Striving for excellency has helped me step out of my comfort zone and grow as an artist.

My favourite genres to work in are horror and fantasy, and I am actively getting involved in projects of that kind. I mainly work on short films, but I hope to work on a feature one day. I love video games, but I have yet to get an opportunity to work in that industry. I would love to do voice-over for games, but I’d also love to write the story. Motion capture is another thing that I’d love to be part of.

All in all, I have many different goals and interests in the entertainment industry. I want to make a positive impact as a creative.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I have a lot of favourite spots in the city. One of them is the Americana at Brand in Glendale. It’s like a small park which has multiple stores around it, and there’s plenty to do. It’s a great place to grab a book and just relax for a few hours. It’s perfect in spring or fall. I love the fountain. I always go there when I just want to enjoy a day out.

I also like going to Santa Monica Pier, but I don’t do it often. It’s beautiful at night. During the day, there’s a park nearby that’s great for going for a walk or rollerblading. The view is beautiful. There’s always plenty of events if I want to do something.

Griffith Park is one of the first places I went to when I came to Los Angeles, and I still enjoy going there. The observatory is a great place to hang out. Once again, the views are beautiful. It’s also not too crowded, which is ideal for a day out when I want to relax and just be outside.

In general, I prefer quiet places. I like going to small coffee shops, just to catch up with a friend, or do some work. I love places with a view. I am not the biggest fan of crowds, which is why I try to avoid popular places. I look for the small gems around the city. I also love bookstores, and I think they can be a great place to be with a friend.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There’s a handful of people who absolutely deserve recognition. I have had a long creative journey, and it has not been easy. I wouldn’t have even thought of pursing my dreams if it wasn’t for the people who believed in me long before I did. I’ve had some amazing teachers who pushed me forward when I wouldn’t take the first step. Even when I had people who thought I’m taking the wrong path, and I’d crash and burn, those teachers made sure that I held my head up.

My friends have also had a very active role in my journey. Even when I was just starting out, they supported me as I was figuring things out. They believed in me more than I ever did, and they made sure I didn’t lose my spark. My friends stayed by my side despite everything, and I couldn’t be more grateful for that. Very few truly got to see me grow as a creative. Those who are close to me know just how much work I’ve put in and continue to do so. I owe these special people everything.
