Meet Brea Holmes

We had the good fortune of connecting with Brea Holmes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brea, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I feel like God has orchestrated my steps to become a Costume Designer. I was around costumes all the time as a recital and dance team kid. My viewpoint of costumes had changed from the “Wow! this is so pretty” to “I wonder how they made that”.
In addition to that, my grandmother was subscribed to some “VHS of the month” club….dated myself, I know. In the subscription, there was one VHS that she gave me that sparked a fire in my interest in Costume Design.
The movie in question was “The King and I”. The costumes, the music , the acting captivated me so much that I turned to my Mom at 8-years-old asking if it was a job to be able to make the costumes. From there I have been blessed to create some amazing things, and work with one of my Costume Designer Heroes, Ruth E. Carter.
To be honest, being creative for me is like breathing. I need that outlet. If it’s not through costumes, I paint, dance, play music, draw, sing, write poetry….I have to do something in an art medium.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am most proud of how far I’ve come in terms of my career. I’ve worked with companies such as Marvel, Amazon, Disney+, and ABC. I’m just looking forward to where I am going to be guided next.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am in love with Little Tokyo….Far Bar, Yeoboseyo, Wolf and Crane, Shin-Sen-Gumi, Kura Sushi….just to name a few

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my career to God….the things I have been a part of, people that I have been able to work with, things I have been able to create…..is all because of the rooms I have been guided to. I dedicate it to my family that have supported me in all aspects-mentally, emotionally, physically, and financially. I dedicate it also to my friends who inspire me and support me all in aspects as well.
