We had the good fortune of connecting with Andra Shinaul and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Andra, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Honestly, I kinda just had to. I was living on my parents couch with my two kids after fleeing an abusive relationship of 7 years. Family had emphasized that they we not gonna be babysitting while I worked. So, I started doing in home massages.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business focuses strictly on pain relief and increasing range of motion. I use an all inclusive approach when it comes to massage modalities and keep it all one price. I personally don’t like the A-la-carte option. I do Deep tissue, sports massage, cupping, scraping, table thai, craniosacral and polarity therapy to name a few.

It definitely wasn’t easy to get where I am today. It took a lot of hard work, marketing, volunteering services, no vacations, determination and a few helpful hands.

I’m so proud that I stuck it out. I was charging $45 for an hour massage in 2016 and people were still telling me I was expensive. I kept at it even when friends and family called this my “lil hobby” and told me to get a real job. Now I’m booked out about a month, almost two months out at a time.

I’ve learned that people will pay for what is important to them. I used to chase anyone that would want a massage from me. I’ve learned to look for people that value massage as a part of their healthcare vs people who like them but only wants discounted works.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
