We had the good fortune of connecting with Rafael Quiroz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rafael, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
So while I was incarcerated I would hear people talk about wanting to be truck drivers when they got out pf prison and then I heard how drivers were always on the road away from their family. So I wanted to know how I could help out there and I discovered the role of a freight broker. I then decided that if I were to ever be released I would want to start a freight brokerage company especially when I realized how important the supply chain was to the economy, the country and every day people. Then when I was finally released, I had the opportunity to fulfill that goal by starting my company Assured Logistics!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business is centered around freight brokerage and the transportation industry. What sets us apart from others is our unwavering commitment to reliability, customer satisfaction, and innovative solutions. We leverage technology to optimize our operations, ensuring that our clients receive efficient and cost-effective services. Additionally, our personalized approach means we build strong, long-lasting relationships with our clients, understanding their unique needs and delivering tailored solutions.

One of the things I am most proud of is the rapid growth we achieved within the first year of operation. Despite starting from scratch, we managed to generate nearly $2 million in sales, establish multiple transportation companies, and create employment opportunities for over 40 people. This growth is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and resilience of our team.

The journey to where we are today was far from easy. When I was released from prison in 2021, I faced numerous challenges, including finding my first customer, building a network, and establishing credibility in the industry. I had to balance a 9 to 5 job while working on my business, and there were times when progress seemed almost impossible.

However, I overcame these challenges through perseverance, hard work, and a relentless focus on my goals. Improving my credit score, securing my first customer, and continuously learning and adapting were key steps in this journey. I also relied heavily on the support of my mentors, colleagues, and loved ones who provided guidance and encouragement.

The lessons I’ve learned along the way include the importance of resilience, the value of building strong relationships, and the need for continuous learning and adaptation. Success doesn’t come overnight, but with determination and a clear vision, it is achievable.

What I want the world to know about me and my brand is that we are driven by a mission to create value in our community through entrepreneurship. My story is one of transformation and redemption, and I aim to inspire others who may be facing similar struggles. Our brand stands for integrity, excellence, and a commitment to making a positive impact in the lives of our clients and employees.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to share my story. I hope it can serve as a beacon of hope and motivation for others striving to overcome their own challenges.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost, I want to give all the glory to God. Without His guidance, strength, and grace, none of this would have been possible.

Then, I want to dedicate my shoutout to my wife. Her unwavering support and belief in me, especially during the tough times, have been a cornerstone of my success.

Additionally, I owe a great deal of gratitude to the mentors and colleagues in the freight brokerage and transportation industry who provided guidance and shared their knowledge. Their mentorship was invaluable as I navigated the challenges of starting and growing my business.

I also want to acknowledge several books that have profoundly influenced my journey, including The Bible, which has been my spiritual anchor, “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” by Stephen Covey, “Success Principles” by Jack Canfield, and the teachings of Jim Rohn. These resources have provided me with wisdom, strategies, and motivation to pursue my goals with purpose and resilience.

Furthermore, I owe a great deal of gratitude to several individuals and organizations who have supported and inspired me along the way. Major Bunton, Sithy Bin, Ten Toes In, Friends Outside, Osbert, Defy Ventures, Harvest Fellowship, IWATC, Dream Live Hope, Levi S., Erik Andersson, and Kevin Waters – your mentorship, encouragement, and belief in my potential have been invaluable. Your support has played a crucial role in my personal and professional growth.

Thank you to everyone who has been a part of my journey. Your impact on my life is immeasurable, and I am deeply grateful for each of you.
