Meet Stanislav Osipov | Artist & Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Stanislav Osipov and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Stanislav, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
One thing I know for certain is that I was put on this earth to create. As I age, the idea that communication is by far the most important thing to humans has crystalized in my mind. Humanity seems like a hive mind that has lost its collective memories and is in desperate need of a reunification. The only thing that can possibly correct our doomed course is philosophy and an understanding of one another and the world that surrounds us.
When broken down into its Greek root words philos (love) and sophia (wisdom), philosophy literally means the love of wisdom. Art is philosophy in visual form. By staying curious and always questioning what we observe we can in this way constantly learn new things. The more we learn, the more we understand, the more we understand, the less we fear, the less we fear, the more we love, the more we love, the less we destroy.
It is my duty to share what I see to help others train their faculties of critical thought. I believe Art can save humanity from ourselves. That is why I chose to pursue Art. I believe it is the key to our survival.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My life experience is what sets my work apart from others. Having travelled the world as a person with little to no intent of self-preservation has led to many interesting situations and events. So many folks go through life cautiously and carefully, planning and setting goals. So many others go through life with no goals or ambitions whatsoever, coasting from cradle to grave in a forgettable and meaningless slog. Early on my only goal in life was to experience everything that life had to offer, the highs and the desperate lows. I feel that my art reflects my lived experiences and, in that way, shares a bit of what I have been through in each piece.
I am most proud of the fact that I get to support myself doing what I do and I am most excited to continue to do it. I got to where I am today by not giving up. Giving up is easy and it feels good because not giving up means working with no end in sight. Nothing that is worthwhile is easy, and I would say that what I do is worthwhile. To overcome the challenges of making a career out of what you love, one must simply consider the alternative: A life without fulfillment. The thought of a life without meaning should motivate anyone back onto their true path.
The two most important lessons I have learned while building my art career are: 1. Life is unpredictable so don’t overthink things and don’t get bummed out when they don’t work out. 2. The work you create as an artist is for others to judge, not you. As soon as you finish a piece and put it out into the world it is in a sense, no longer yours. It doesn’t matter if you love it or hate it, it’s not for you, it’s for those who see it.
What do I want the world to know about my story? I want people to know that there is more to come. I have recently written a children’s book about a trash loving skeleton and have a whole series in the works (Benny Cleans Up). You can find the link at the end of the interview. I am also developing a couple games at the moment as well. They may end up being tabletop games or computer games, it all depends on how much time I can devote to them. There is also the possibility that I will be creating art classes in the near future. I just want to keep doing what I love and having fun doing it, whether I am remembered for it or not, that doesn’t matter to me.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When I lived in China, Russia, India, San Francisco, New York city and travelled the rest of the world, instead of going to recommended places or landmarks or other things normal people would do I would go wherever my feet took me. Often i would find myself walking down back alleys and graveyards and abandoned buildings. I find beauty and inspiration in the overlooked areas of the world. So if my friends came to visit me here I would say lets just chill at my place and play some video games because if you want recommendations on where to go, I’m not your guy.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My wife is the reason for my success. She showed me that I am worth something. It is because of her that I stopped despising myself and learned to turn my imperfections into stepping stones on the path of self betterment. My wife is by far the hardest working, most selfless and most talented person I have ever met. There is not a day that goes by that I do not learn something from her. So here is a big shoutout to my wife, Ayumi: I love you very much! Thank you for everything you do for me!
