We had the good fortune of connecting with Frank Martinez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Frank, what do you attribute your success to?
Being humble. Every night that I get to walk on stage and perform for people is a night that I get to live my dream. Not everyone has that luxury. Keeping myself grounded helps me to make sure that I push myself to become a better comedian and even a better person. I think people see that and want to be part of something like that.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
This year has been full of accomplishments. I was featured on Cheech & Chong’s Up in Jokes Comedy special & I even had the opportunity to open for Martin Moreno. These huge opportunities among others have opened so many doors for me and have allowed me to progress in my career like never before. Though that was not always the case. I’ve been pursuing a career in comedy since 2013. I would say I spent the last 10 years getting ready for this year alone. I remember always wanting bigger and better opportunities however it took all that time to gain the experience I needed to be ready for these moments that are happening now. I would say that staying humble and being consistent while growing during those formative years is what really kept me going. It can be really tough at times when you are not seeing the fruits of your labor. You have to find ways to keep yourself in it and not give up. I would say that a healthy amount of delusion is definitely part of the equation. I hope that what people take away is to be inspired to be the best they can be at whatever that is. We only get one shot at this life and I’m going to do it in a way that makes me happy. Getting up and getting to entertain people makes me happy. Be Happy and if you aren’t then do something about it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would definitely have to to hit up The Comedy Store. I swear that magic happens in that place. Any night of the week you can see amazing comedians working on there sets and creating once in a lifetime moments. We would have to stop and get some tacos at my favorite spot Tacos El Fogon. If you need a spot that’s open late at night and has basically every taco option you want and even some you didn’t know you needed. Definitely have to visit Venice Beach and take a cruise on your longboard all the way down to The Santa Monica Pier.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are a few people that I owe the world to. First my parents(Francisco & Anna Martinez). Honestly without their support there is no way I would be able to pursue my dream job. Then there is my cousin Danny Edmonds & his company Blaze Mota. Through him and Blaze Mota it has allowed me to meet so many people that directly have helped me in my career.
