Meet Yuhui Qi | Creative Designer & Multidisciplinary Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Yuhui Qi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Yuhui, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I chose to pursue a career in art because it has always been the best way for me to express my inner emotions and thoughts. From a young age, I have been passionate about colors, shapes, and forms. Through art, I discovered a means of communication that transcends language. This passion led me to study art and develop my own unique style.

As I grew, I realized the immense potential of art in the commercial world. Art is not just a tool for self-expression; it can also play a significant role in various business activities across different industries. I advocate for integrating art with commerce. This approach not only realizes the value of personal creativity but also provides unique visual solutions and creative strategies for businesses and brands.

I hope to make art more accessible and integrated into everyday life, rather than something perceived as highbrow and unattainable. Through my efforts, I aim to bring art to a broader audience, allowing more people to experience its beauty and find inspiration and meaning in their daily lives.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My artistic practice is distinguished by its multidisciplinary approach, exploring the potential of merging various fields with art. With an undergraduate background in chemistry, I have ventured into integrating chemistry with art, using scientific knowledge and experimental methods to explore new materials and techniques. This approach infuses scientific rigor into my creative process, enriching my artistic perspective and opening new avenues for creation.

During my time at Parsons School of Design, where I pursued a Master’s degree in Design and Technology, I delved deeper into the fusion of art and technology. I employed advanced technological tools such as digital media, virtual reality, and interactive design to create contemporary and captivating artworks. This experience expanded the boundaries of my artistic practice and provided me with insights into how technology can enhance the expressiveness and interactivity of my creations.

However, the intersection of different disciplines often presents various challenges. When combining other fields with art, I frequently ponder whether technology might overshadow the artistic process and compromise its purity. Through ongoing exploration and experimentation, I have come to realize that technology should serve to enhance artistic expression rather than replace it. Striking a balance between the complexities of technological integration and the essence of artistic expression is crucial.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend were visiting and I wanted to show them the best time ever, I’d take them to the Hudson Valley. This area is perfect for unwinding and embracing the beauty of nature. We’d start by exploring the serene landscapes along the Hudson River and its surrounding mountains, enjoying peaceful walks and taking in breathtaking views that help us feel fully immersed in the natural world.

We’d spend leisurely days hiking through tranquil forests and relaxing by picturesque lakes, letting the soothing environment rejuvenate us. The Hudson Valley’s calm and lush scenery offers a wonderful escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

To fully savor the local vibe, we’d explore charming small towns and enjoy casual meals at cozy farm-to-table restaurants. These inviting spots offer delicious, fresh meals and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. We’d take our time to appreciate the simple pleasures of life and enjoy the gentle rhythm of the valley, making it a truly relaxing and enriching experience.

In my artistic and design journey, I want to express my deep gratitude to those who have significantly influenced my growth and the industry.

I’m especially thankful to my family for their unwavering support and my mentors for their invaluable guidance in both technical skills and creative development. I also appreciate the platforms and organizations that support emerging artists, providing crucial opportunities and career support. Additionally, the industry veterans whose insights have greatly shaped my professional path deserve special acknowledgment.
