Meet Shanta Parasuraman | Actor & Writer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Shanta Parasuraman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shanta, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
This career is a slow, slow grind, and instead of anxiously fixating on not achieving certain milestones yet, I’ve gotten much better at finding creative fulfillment on my own. The milestones will come, but in the mean time, it’s cliche but I do honestly want to enjoy the journey.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I got my start in theatre, which was such a foundational training ground for me. Going non-stop on stage for eight shows a week with a live audience gave me confidence in myself and my artistry before moving to Los Angeles.
This career is never easy, and getting to do my own improv and sketch comedy on stage has been so fulfilling as I try to establish myself in an industry that at times feels impenetrable.
I’ve committed to this for life, so I know the success will come with time. So in the mean time, I am learning not to stress and compare myself to others. It’s so important to have a well-rounded life.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m biased, but I would definitely take them to an improv or sketch show at UCB! I also live near Griffith Park and it’s a beautiful place to hike. The tacos at Guisados are a must-try. We could go to a game at Dodger Stadium. And I’ve yet to see a show at the Hollywood Bowl so we could go together!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My roommate and friend Tori Zaitonia is a wonderfully supportive and encouraging person. She inspires me to take risks, create my own work, and also relax with some nourishing hobbies.
