How do you think about work life balance?

24 hours in a day, 168 hours in a week. Junior investment bankers regularly work 80-90 hours a week. Many other high profile professions require the same level of commitment. Often those on the outside claim that working 80-90 hours a week is bad/wrong/terrible/silly/etc but we’ve spoken with so many folks who say working that much has been the best decision of their life – it allowed them to develop a deep and strong skill set far faster than would have been possible otherwise. In other words, by working 2x the hours, they were able to generate 5x or more the rewards. And depending on where you are in your career, investing heavily in your skills and competence can pay dividends for a long time.

My work life balance has always been pretty good. As a content creator I kind of have a lot of ideas in my brain constantly stirring around, If you think about it. Anything can be content. I have made an effort to actively not turn my entire life into content because then I would feel like I’m not present in the present. However I am getting more comfortable with making more styles of content. I used to dread recording or filming content in public, but now that I’m getting more reps I’m loving the process. When I first started working in the advertising industry, I didn’t give much thought to work-life balance. It was an incredibly intense period—sometimes I worked up to 80 hours a week for several consecutive weeks. In the beginning, the late nights and unhealthy lifestyle felt exciting. That’s how I had always envisioned the life of a working professional. Read more>>

Work life balance: how has your balance changed over time? What do you think about the balance? Work-life balance is a dynamic concept that has evolved throughout my journey as an entrepreneur and co-founder of 1987 Masters Entertainment production company. Initially, when my husband Yuri and I moved from Ukraine and started building our event production company from scratch in LA, the concept of balance seemed elusive. We were pouring every ounce of energy into establishing our business, often blurring the lines between work and personal life. Read more>>

My approach to work-life balance, over the years, has dramatically changed. Early in my career, I was much more about building my expertise and reputation within the storage and organizing industry, often leading to long hours and sacrificing personal time for work. More experienced and confident in my skills and abilities, I quickly came to realize that a healthy balance between work and personal life was a good way of sustaining productivity and overall wellness.
Now, I make sure to properly place boundaries between work and my life. I set time out with my family, hobbies, and, most importantly, self-care, all while delivering exceptional service to my clients at Henfield Storage. Read more>>

Work-life balance has changed significantly after changing career paths. Originally, I worked for the Federal and State Government in Communications. It was rewarding to have the opportunity to work in these capacities. However, the deadlines were challenging along with finding “your zone” to create a quality product. I found myself working a lot of hours and not giving myself enough. I found my stress levels were affecting my health and I knew I had to make a change in my life. Before making this change, I tried Hypnotherapy to reduce my anxiety and stress. It was a game-changer for me in my life. I found my anxiety levels diminished greatly. Read more>>

Balance is a super important aspect to my life. I love acting and am so incredibly passionate about it, but you need to take care of your mental health along the way. Acting is something that I will always pursue and take with me throughout my entire life, but so is my education, books, my health and fitness. The more I am faced with rejection in this industry, the more I focus on the balance in my life. Instead of focusing on the movie credits, I focus on the wonderful people I’ve met along the way, the experience in itself of auditioning, booking and being on set and just all the positive aspects. My work-life balance has definitely shifted over time, especially with marriage and family life. Early on, it was easier to compartmentalize things-work, personal interests, and time for myself. But as my responsibilities have grown, especially with my marriage and sons, balance has become more about integration than separation. I’ve had to become more intentional about what’s most important, and that can change depending on the day or situation. Read more>>
