We had the good fortune of connecting with Sadie C and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sadie, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
Being an actor sounds glamorous, but I think it’s actually one of the most difficult and rockiest roads one can take.
First, it is required for an actor to be excellent at the basics- acting, which is only the beginning. Before you get to the top 5% of all actors, nobody really pays you anything so you are doing much of the work unpaid, on top of that you also need to put money into continuous training, and survive Los Angeles doing 3 other jobs. Once you have the acting skills, you are still competing with thousands who also have the skills. That is where it takes persistence for who knows how long, to stay afloat doing smaller projects and having the faith that you’ll have the luck to get picked for the bigger projects one day. Or never, as it’s not guaranteed.
That’s why people who hung around for longer than 5 years are mostly in it for the love of the craft. I have seen so many “try” to be an actor and falling out because doing it for fame or money won’t sustain you. They didn’t outlast the amount of hard work necessary to be an actor.
I wish everyone with that “dream” realizes this before they get stuck in this LA traffic.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think I jumped into the muddy water after seeing “Crazy Rich Asian”‘s success. I was like, finally, true diversity in a successful major Hollywood film. I thought they might need more Asian actresses so I decided to take the jump.
It’s been quite a journey so far. I have ventured in Shakespeare plays, films, TV shows, commercials, VO projects, musical theater, and also improv and comedy.
In the very beginning I have set out to support diversity (More normal Asians!) in medial portrayal as my mission. Ovevr the years that has morphed into sharing my love and my humor for a better world in all the roles and performances that I do. I think my art is constantly changing and growing along with my humanity.
My latest thing is having a blast with saying my pronouns are “ecobitch”. You might catch me say that at open mics and shows. And there may be a podcast of that name coming soon.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would have taken them to Runyon Canyon but it might still be recovering from the fire.
I would tell them the traffic sucks and make them take the metro to Little Tokyo because Asian things are better.
San Gabriel Valley for good Chinese, Korean food.
If you can afford a plane ticket, visit Asia!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
