Meet Yui Shibata | Actor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Yui Shibata and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Yui, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my success is committing to a small goal every day and having a big goal for the long term at the same time. For example, a small daily goal is running 1 mile s every day, and a big goal is to finish the Honolulu marathon. One of my big goals is having a film festival as a judge. My small daily goal was to watch a film and write a review. As an actress, I know about making films and have a perspective as a filmmaker, so it helped me properly review a movie. Through this experience, I got an offer from Japan Film Festival Los Angeles to become a judge for their 20th Anniversary in 2025.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As an Asian actress in Hollywood, what sets me apart from others is the multiple necessary elements of being an international actor. Those elements include a professional acting career in both American and Japanese, academic certificates, and social media popularity. Over a decade of my acting career,
I’ve been using Japanese and English in film/television and theater. Many of my works got hits/award-winning: The God Chair (film), The Bay (television), and The Tempest (theatre). I also studied theater at university and received a Bachelor of Arts. I heard this is not common for most Hollywood actors, as well as foreign actors. So, I am also proud of it. Last, one of the most critical elements is using social media for an acting job. Traditional actors, especially those from theater, are not good at or against using social media. However, many young celebrities nowadays succeed because of social media. I am one of them. Since the pandemic, I’ve been focusing on social media; then, I raised followers and views and raised funds for production through live streaming and reels. I am a unique type of actor.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I have several places my friends recommend visiting in Los Angeles. Since starring on travel-related television shows, Go West and Creative World, I have learned about many places in Los Angeles that have fun. Most people who only have a few days are recommended to visit famous places such as Griffith Observatory, Universal Studio Hollywood, and Santa Monica Pier. However, I want to take them to film locations because Los Angeles is known for Hollywood movies. The big hit episode of Go West, “Tour of the film location of Back To The Future,” is one of the examples. We posted some episodes from the television show Go West on YouTube, and this episode got more than 200,000 views from Japan in the first 48 hours, and the tour got booked by many Japanese audiences. After that, I discovered that Hollywood movie locations can be popular spots for travelers. Everyone has their favorite Hollywood movie, so if they go to the filming location of their favorite movie, I’d be sure they become happy.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am where I am today, thanks to my parents. My father inspired me to dedicate my life to acting in Hollywood. He loves Hollywood movies and kept showing me many of them when I was a child. My mother gave me the opportunity to learn English and study acting. She supported me throughout my education.
