We had the good fortune of connecting with Kathryn Pitt and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kathryn, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
I think you know when to give up completely if the passion for what you are doing has gone. You have to believe in what you are doing and feel you have to do it. That does not mean that there are times when you feel like giving up or that you think you are no good and not getting anywhere. I have come to the conclusion that those dark times are part of the journey and can be very useful. It makes you stop, take stock, reflect and often then an idea or a spark occurs that drives you onwards again. If you don’t know what to do or how to push forward asking for help can be invaluable. Ask friends whose opinions you value to talk through your concerns. They will have a different perspective that you may not have thought of and they most likely will give you a boast in confidence that you need. Asking help from a professional to critic your work or from a life coach can also be beneficial. Often it is how you work that might be blocking creativity and success. In conclusion if you love something try every avenue to make it happen then you will have no regrets that you didn’t try.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am an artist with two parts. I take commissions for pet portraits that I love doing and I also paint for exhibitions and galleries. Creatively I find the more I do the better I become but being creative and having to be a business person has been tough. I have had to learn how to talk about myself and my work, not in the self deprecating manner I once did but with confidence. I have developed a personal style which I am very proud of. The thought that someone wants my work to hang on their wall to look at every day still makes me feel like the cat who got the cream. If I can make someone happy and make money then that is all I want.

Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
I live in LA so lots of hikes, go to the beach, take in a movie if it’s summer maybe an outdoor movie at the Hollywood Forever Cemetry of take in a Shakespeare Play in Griffith Park. Go to as many bars and restaurants as possible, go to especially a good sushi restaurant as it’s the best here. See a band at the Greek and watch the Dodgers play at the stadium.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
