We had the good fortune of connecting with Laurie Lipton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Laurie, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
Not listening to other peoples’ advice

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I began drawing detailed images at the age of four and never stopped. I’ve lived in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France, London and currently residing in Los Angeles. My work has been exhibited extensively throughout Europe and the United States. Method and subject are equally important in my large-scale and exacting pencil drawings. With imagery as dense and as detailed, it’s more precise to call them graphite paintings. The results are stunning, worrying, funny and, above all, powerful.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
As I barely leave my studio, I’d tell them to use Google and give them an extra set of keys so that I could get on with my art work.
