Meet Sean Kellz | Singer Songwriter & Saxophonist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sean Kellz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sean, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
In my childhood, I never mentioned wanting to pursue this out loud. The gift was always there and some in my community would always say “remember me when you make it.” As a child, it gave me a lot of confidence like ‘oh I must really have something.’ However, I was raised to keep a day job in order to maintain adulthood, but I’ve never felt more comfortable on any job than I feel behind a microphone. I wrote my first song in second grade about frogs, joined the band in middle school, and entered talent shows and open mics all through high school. Music wasn’t the focus when I first moved to California, but after the first couple years, I’m glad I get to show my full potential singing and playing saxophone.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve learned in this life that nothing comes easy. I’ve fought through different moods and feelings from procrastination and laziness to accomplished and hopeful. While going thru life’s evs and flows, my music became the soundtrack to certain chapters of my life. I was finally learning how to have meaningful dialogue thru music while mentally struggling through the monotony of today’s R&B. Instead of sitting in that emotion, in my head, I’ve found a way to musically express that feeling, and that’s what I want others to get from my story, because there’s always a way through.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Being from the east coast, it had been one attractive journey through LA from the natives to the skyscrapers. Must do in LA: experience a Tam’s burger, cruise with the low riders on Sunday’s, kick it at a block party, and enjoy elote on Venice Beach.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutout to everyone tuned into the journey, singing along, and sharing the gift of music with others.
