Meet Billie Abddeen | Fashion Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Billie Abddeen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Billie, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The thought process behind starting my own business has always been providing a life for my family outside of working for someone else! I have 4 children And I have always had childcare issues when it came to me keeping a job. At one point in life I had to choose to let my jobs go and just stay home for my children. It was at that moment I knew I had to do something to keep myself up financially and to show my kids that just because one opportunity falls through, doesn’t mean you can’t create opportunities for yourself, even when it seems the odds are against you.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I love to create fashion pieces whether it’s made through crochet or with different fabrics! What sets me apart is that I don’t use patterns, I create from what I see in my mind and I love to use colors because I myself am a bright person and like to express myself through the use of color and design.
I got to where I am today through consistency and believing In myself before anybody else ever did. I have always modeled my own fashions and boldly let people know “I created this!” Im also not afraid to step out and present my craft to people because if you never take that chance, you’ll never know what success you could have had. I didn’t always have the money, materials, or opportunities to showcase the way I wanted to. But I’ve looked past that and made things work with what I did already have! It hasn’t been easy because I wear every hat of my small business, the creator, The messenger, the media person, the post office runner, the model and so much more! It can become stressful but when you really want something, you are willing to get it no matter the sacrifice for a little while.
One lesson I’ve learned along the way is you don’t have to be in the same position as another person in your field to succeed. Never compare someone else’s success with yours. Everybody’s journey is unique to them and it’s ok to take longer than the next person or even feel like you struggled more than the next person.
Ive also learned to never expect for the people closest to you to be your biggest supporter. Sometimes your biggest supporter comes from people watching from the outside and people you don’t even know! You’ll be surprised who’s watching you without saying a word until the time is right and they are led to push you further in your journey, so always keep going no matter what support you do or don’t see!
I want the world to know that my brand Qreative Qreations was birthed from struggle, pain and loss covered with the protection of my heart! I want people to know that you don’t have to go from 0 to 1000 in one day to think you’ve finally did something. Going through the process is just as important as achieving the success because you know what you endured to make your business what it is. Qreative Qreations is here to bring out the creativity and confidence that we seem to hide! Be you with no apologies!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Many people have encouraged me throughout my journey. I would definitely like to shout out Tyrona Thomas, who has always been by me and pushed me when I first started creating and selling my very first items and made sure she attended my shows or helped in anyway possible. Of course my mother and my sisters continue to big me up and spread the word of my works and even model my pieces! Anedra “Ne-Ne” Walls for putting me in my first fashion show and letting me know that I could go beyond where I ever imagined! Also Jennifer Baker of Metro Faces International and Parris Harris for filling me with so much love encouragement and sharing knowledge with me that will continue to help me grow!
