We had the good fortune of connecting with Kadie Chronister and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kadie, do you disagree with some advice that is more or less universally accepted?
One conventional piece of advice I don’t agree with is the idea that you should “do what you love” for work.

That’s just not how it works for everyone. For many people, the reality is that you do what you have to do to pay the bills — and then you find time to do what you love on the side, even if it never makes you a cent.

The better advice? Find purpose and take action in the workplace, but protect your passion outside of it. Doing what you love isn’t about instant success or praise. It’s early mornings and late nights. It’s sacrificing comfort and fun to work on something meaningful to you.

Sometimes you have to teach yourself the skills for the job you want because no one is handing you the opportunity. Maybe you didn’t have the money, support, or even interest in that field when you were younger.

You can’t always do what you love for work — but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do what you love. Honing your craft takes discipline, purpose, and a clear “why.” And it’s up to you to figure out what that looks like in your own life.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve been working since the fifth grade—starting with walking dogs in my neighborhood just to make sure I had lunch money.

That same hustle lives in me today. I’ll still babysit dogs, sample beverages at grocery stores, or help someone with social media on a tight budget if it means staying resourceful. That work ethic and discipline have been deeply ingrained in me from a young age, and I believe it’s one of the qualities that truly sets me apart.

People often call me a “jack of all trades”—a title I used to feel conflicted about, because it came from necessity. I grew up with very little and had to teach myself how to thrive in many different roles just to get by. But now I embrace it—because that adaptability and drive are part of my story.

Today, I create content, style high-profile clients, and am working on publishing my first book. I also host a podcast called Coffee & Crystals, where I blend my experience as a 500-hour certified yoga teacher (trained while traveling the world with Marianne Wells Yoga School), my leadership roles in the global fashion industry, and my personal journey of resilience.

It’s never been easy for me—and truthfully, it still isn’t. But that’s why I create. That’s why I show up for others as a motivator and a hype girl—because I once needed one myself.

The obstacles are my story. I create content to help others find their light, feel inspired, and know that no matter what they’ve been through, it’s possible to chase your own north star.

I believe my higher purpose is to be living proof that even in chaos, you can find creativity, strength, and healing. Storytelling has always helped me process my own trauma—and by sharing openly and vulnerably, I hope to empower others to do the same.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’ve really come to love living in West Hollywood and truly appreciate all that LA has to offer.

When family comes to visit, I make sure to show them my favorite local spots. We always start with coffee at Strings of Life Café, right in my neighborhood, and ease into the LA lifestyle with an açaí bowl from Body Energy—my go-to is the blueberry açaí.

I’m a rooftop girl, so cocktails at the Edition Hotel are a must, followed by an evening out at Bar Funk in Beverly Hills, which never fails to impress. The girl boss in me often has to sneak in a few emails, so a relaxing pool day at 1 Hotel West Hollywood, the Mondrian, or the Hollywood Roosevelt (where I once held a summer yoga residency) is the perfect balance of work and play.

I’m also a big brunch girlie, and the beauty of West Hollywood is the abundance of amazing spots nearby. Bottega Louie is perfect any time of day—and ideal for grabbing pastries to enjoy throughout the trip—while WeHo Bistro is my top pick for brunch and celeb sightings.

Fitness is a constant for me, so I’ll always fit in a Pilates class at Oblix, yoga at Equinox, and Sunday yin yoga at Sweat Yoga—it’s a non-negotiable.

I also have a deep love for the arts. The Getty and The Broad are two of my favorite places in LA. Much like when I lived in New York and would return to The Met again and again, I find so much peace and inspiration in these spaces. I could go back a hundred times and still find something new.

Malibu holds a special place in my heart, and there’s even a chapter in my upcoming book about it. Sadly, many of my favorite places there were lost to fires, but I’m grateful my family got to experience them with me beforehand. Still, the Malibu Fish Market, Geoffrey’s, and Zuma Beach are always on our list.

There’s also a spot in Santa Monica near Back on the Beach Café where I go weekly to meditate, get in some steps, and enjoy cocktails at Coast Beach Café or one of the nearby beachfront hotels.

And I’m always down for a road trip to my old stomping grounds in the South Bay. I love stopping by Amaloa Healing Arts in Hermosa to pick up a crystal and share with my family where I first lived when I moved to LA.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shout-out goes to a long list of motivators—teachers, former bosses, family members, neighbors, and people from my community.

If it weren’t for the many people who poured into my cup and believed in me throughout my life, I wouldn’t be who I am today.

I was raised by my great-grandmother, who deserves the biggest shout-out in heaven. But it truly took an entire village to shape my journey.

Ginny, Rick, and my big sister Julie are the first names that come to mind. And of course, my mom deserves the biggest shout-out of all—for bringing me into this world and making sure I had a fighting chance.
