We had the good fortune of connecting with Dashon Kilbourne and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dashon, how do you think about risk?
I feel that without risk taking then I will have a less chance at success. In order to be successful then I have to step outside my comfort zone. Risk taking has played a major part in my life. I’ve taken risk and failed multiple times. Failing in life is what has made me who I am today. I’m not afraid to fail anymore even though I feel like I’ve already failed enough.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart from others I feel like is my determination, my hunger, my Will to want and need more. I feel like my past struggles and set backs are what keeps me pushing forward. I’ve learned to love the art of boxing. Boxing is a science. I’ve learned to apply real life into my boxing career. In the boxing ring, if you make a mistake then you pay for it. Just like in real life. Boxing not only sharpens the mind, It also sharpens the body. Teaches great hand eye coordination and with the conditioning in practice keeps the body physically fit. Not only does boxing teach the mind to think quick and fast but also teaches strategy and patience. This was not easy and it still isn’t easy by any means. I still have a long road ahead of me. I feel like I keep myself motivated because of the love I have for the sport and the peace it gives me. I’ve learned valuable lessons in boxing matches and in sparing sessions. From busted noses and black eyes to busted lips and even being knocked down. I think I’ve learned to respect the sport and love the process. Just like I’ve learned to respect life. I’ve learned that life is not a game and neither is boxing. Life is real and boxing is real life!!!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well first I would like to say that my first recommendation when it comes to eating out here in Lexington Kentucky would have to be “Sassy Bleu” Southern Fine Dining. I also enjoyed a great brunch spot named “Josie’s” in the Chevy chase area as well as “First Watch”. From then I’d probably recommend going through downtown Lexington visiting “Triangle Square” which has a plethora of food spots and nice murals, etc. We could also visit some of the nice race museums and historic areas near the distillery district. There’s an insane amount of things to do here, granted I’m also new to the city myself! I’m originally from Henderson, KY, so we can probably sight see things I haven’t even seen yet!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to recognize my gym and my teammates and most importantly my coach “Gerald Bestkeptsecret Reed”. I train at “The House of Best Kept Secrets” in Lexington Kentucky.
