We had the good fortune of connecting with Brett Robert Culbert and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brett Robert, is there something you believe many others might not?
The one piece of conventional advice I’ve always rejected is to ‘follow the rules.'” The second you decide to play by someone else’s rulebook, you’ve already lost. You’re competing on their terms and erasing your single greatest asset: your unique perspective. It turns innovators into cover bands.

So my philosophy is simple: It’s not about being a rule-breaker, it’s about being a rule-maker. Don’t just follow the map—your job is to draw a new one.”

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart, I believe, is a combination of two things: a ridiculous belief in myself and a commitment to staying a child at heart. My imagination is my greatest tool; I love to keep my mind playing, wandering, and learning. It’s that childlike curiosity and sense of wonder that fuels my passion for storytelling and allows me to truly inhabit a character.

My professional path has been a testament to hard work, dedication, and the unwavering support of loved ones. It has been anything but easy, and honestly, that’s why I love it so much. The challenges—like losing dear friends and family members to various ailments—have taught me the most profound lessons. These moments of loss and hardship strengthened my resolve and taught me the importance of resilience. They’ve also given me a deeper well of emotion to draw from as an actor.

Overcoming these challenges has been about taking one step after another, even when it feels impossible. My journey is proof that when you are passionate and you want something badly enough, you keep pushing forward.

What I want the world to know about my brand and my story is this: anything is possible.

I came from a small town in Leavenworth, Kansas, and was raised by a single mom who worked incredibly hard. We didn’t have a lot of money, and you learn a lot when you don’t have a lot. She taught me the meaning of dedication and the power of love. Later in life, my stepdad came along and taught me the values of being a man. I’m so appreciative of him for helping me understand discipline and logic, which has been a huge part of my growth.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We’d start the day at one of my favorite local breakfast spots. It wouldn’t be some super-trendy place, but a genuine, delicious spot where I can get a great meal. Then, we’d hit the gym for a workout. It’s an important part of my daily discipline—not just for my career, but for my mental and physical health. It’s about showing you what it takes to stay grounded and consistent in a city that’s constantly moving.

After we’ve put in the work, we’d go full tourist mode. We’d walk the Hollywood Walk of Fame and check out all the iconic spots.

For dinner, I’d take you to one of my favorite, go-to spots in downtown L.A. It’s got to be a place with a great menu that also offers excellent gluten-free options. I’m always on the lookout for places that can accommodate that, and I’ve found some true gems.

After dinner, we’d find a spot with an epic view of the city. Downtown L.A. has some incredible scenic overlooks, whether it’s from a rooftop or a park. It’s the perfect way to cap off the day—seeing the vast, beautiful landscape of this city that I get to call home. It’s a great way to show you that L.A. isn’t just about the glitz; it’s also about its quiet, beautiful, and impressive scenery.

Hmm- This is starting to sound like a date… Guess I’m a romantic

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
That’s a fantastic question. I’m incredibly lucky to have had so many people believe in me and help me get to where I am today. First, I have to give a huge shout-out to my parents. I’ll never forget them staying up late with me during high school, helping me memorize lines and taking me to rehearsals and forensics practices. They were my first coaches, and they laid the groundwork for everything that came after.

Later on, I met my mentor, Tom Murdock, in college. Tom taught me what the true craft of acting was all about and how to approach it with discipline and respect. He completely changed my perspective and helped me find my own voice as a performer.

And finally, my story would not be what it is without my wife. She’s my greatest supporter and my partner in every project. She helps me self-tape, she runs lines with me, and she truly believes in me even when I doubt myself. Her support is the reason I can keep pushing forward, and I’m so grateful for her.
