Meet Wil Lemus | Partner – Creative Director

We had the good fortune of connecting with Wil Lemus and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Wil, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
Being supportive and understanding. No matter what feeling I have about the situation they may be in, my job as a parent is to help them get through it and not have them deal with my feelings about it in that moment. We can talk about it later once they are ready but when they are going through something that is impactful for them even if it as a mistake I make sure they really think about the situation and try and learn as much as possible from it so it doesn’t become something they repeat.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
When I was in high school my parents and I cleaned an advertising office at night. I didn’t actually know what kind of business it was or what they did but based on the pictures I saw in offices to me it looked like they had a great life. As time went on I made friends with a couple of Art Directors and a handful of other people knew me because my mom was so loved within that company. She also cleaned homes for a couple of people who worked there so naturally when I got curious and asked questions they were more than happy to help me along the way. That was my introduction tho the industry.
Eventually one of the guys who I became friends with asked me if I wanted to learn how to do what they did and I told him I didn’t know how to draw. He said “I don’t know how to either”. That kind of threw me and so I asked how do you create these picture and he began to tell me about the computers and programs they used and it got me even more curious. He told me get a computer and that they could give me some of the software to start playing with. So I begged my mom to get me a computer and a week later I had my first Mac.
So I went from being part of the cleaning crew at an advertising agency to 20-ish years later now owning a advertising agency with my wife. There is a lot in between but way to long to describe. It was a long road but I learned a ton along the way and have met some of the most amazing people in this industry who helped me even though it didn’t benefit them and thats what I try to do. Im always happy to give advice or share my knowledge to whoever wants to learn.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
What a question. Im not much of a planner. Haha.
I would def go to a Dodger game. Thats a must.
Breakfast spots would probably be Lodge Bread, Bluejam Cafe and CC’s cafe in the Valley. I live in wood land Hills.
Luv the Eat Thai in LA is amazing for lunch or Dinner.
Nice dinner out would maybe Manuela, Cabra LA , Cho Sun Galbi or Girl & the Goat in LA.
Def hit Venice beach boardwalk and catch some sun or Redondo Beach from some King Crab.
Hanging with friends is what I would do. We have a great time anywhere.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mom and dad. There are many people to thank beside them but they are where it all begins. Growing up I’ve seen them try many different things to make extra money while working full time jobs. They were never scared they just went for it and if it worked it worked and if it didn’t work they moved on to the next. Even though they might have had their fears I never saw it and that was very impactful.
