Meet Jennifer Miranda | Principal Event & Meeting Planner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Miranda and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jennifer, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
My work-life balance has changed a lot over time. Earlier in my career, I thought balance meant giving everything to the work, saying yes to every opportunity, and proving myself through long hours. In the event and hospitality world, that can become the norm very quickly because the work is fast-paced, emotional, and often happens when everyone else is off.
Over time, I’ve learned that balance is less about splitting time perfectly and more about being intentional with my energy. There are seasons where work requires more of me, especially leading up to a major event or production, but I’ve also learned the importance of building in recovery, protecting family time, and creating systems so that everything does not depend on me being available 24/7.
Today, I think about balance as sustainability. I want to show up fully for my clients, my team, and my family without running myself into the ground. That means being honest about capacity, setting clearer boundaries, trusting my team, and making time for the things that keep me grounded. I still love the intensity of the work, but I’ve learned that I do my best work when my life outside of work is also cared for.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
JM Event Planning & Production is a hospitality and event production company built around the belief that great events are not just about how they look, but how people feel while they are there. We specialize in hospitality staffing, bar service, event production, casino night experiences, and front-of-house event support for weddings, private parties, corporate events, and large-scale productions throughout California.
What sets us apart is that we are not simply sending staff to an event. We approach every event with the mindset of producers, planners, and hospitality professionals. We look at the full guest experience: how guests are welcomed, how food and beverage service flows, how the space feels, how the team communicates, and how all the small behind-the-scenes details come together to create a seamless event.
I am most proud of the reputation we have built for being reliable, resourceful, and hands-on. Events are emotional, fast-moving, and rarely perfect behind the scenes, so having a team that can stay calm, polished, and solution-oriented makes all the difference. I love that our clients trust us not only to provide staff, but to step into the flow of an event and help make everything feel effortless.
My path to where I am today was not overnight, and it definitely was not easy. I grew up around hospitality and events, and over time I learned the business from many different angles: service, staffing, planning, logistics, production, client communication, and team leadership. I have worked long days, late nights, difficult events, and moments where I had to figure things out in real time. Every challenge taught me something valuable.
One of the biggest lessons I have learned is that success in this industry comes from preparation, communication, and the ability to adapt. You can have the most beautiful plan on paper, but events are live experiences. Weather changes, timelines shift, vendors need support, guests need attention, and the team has to be able to move with confidence. That is where experience matters.
I have also learned that building a business requires resilience. There have been seasons of growth, uncertainty, lessons learned the hard way, and moments where I had to keep going even when it felt overwhelming. What helped me overcome those challenges was staying connected to the reason I started: I genuinely love creating experiences, serving people well, and building a team that takes pride in the work.
What I want the world to know about my brand is that we care deeply. We care about the client, the guests, the staff, the vendors, and the overall experience. Our work is rooted in hospitality, but it is also rooted in trust. When someone hires JM Event Planning & Production, they are not just hiring a service. They are bringing in a team that knows how to show up, problem-solve, and protect the experience from beginning to end.
I am excited about continuing to grow the brand in a way that feels true to who we are: polished, dependable, creative, and hospitality-driven. My story is still evolving, but I am proud that it has been built through hard work, real relationships, and a genuine love for bringing people together.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting Long Beach for a week, I would want them to experience the city the way locals do: a little beach, a little food, a little culture, and a lot of personality. Long Beach has such a unique mix of coastal energy, neighborhood pride, creativity, and history, so I would build the week around showing them all the different sides of the city.
We would start with a relaxed beach day. I would take them for a walk or bike ride along the beach path, stop near Belmont Shore, and spend time on Second Street for lunch, shopping, and people-watching. Belmont Shore is one of those places that feels very Long Beach to me: casual, lively, and full of great little restaurants and boutiques. We would probably end the day with sunset near the bay or Naples, walking along the canals and looking at the homes and boats.
Another day would be all about downtown Long Beach. We would visit the Aquarium of the Pacific, walk around Shoreline Village, and enjoy the waterfront. I would also take them to The Queen Mary because it is such an iconic part of the city’s history. Even if you have lived here your whole life, there is something special about seeing the harbor, the skyline, and the ship together.
For food, I would want them to try a mix of local favorites. Long Beach has great brunch spots, coffee shops, taco spots, seafood, and neighborhood restaurants. I would take them somewhere fun on Retro Row, somewhere along Fourth Street for vintage shopping and coffee, and definitely somewhere with a good patio or rooftop feel. I love places that feel connected to the neighborhood, not overly polished or generic.
One day would be dedicated to exploring the artsier side of Long Beach. We would check out Retro Row, local murals, vintage stores, small businesses, and maybe catch live music or an event if something was happening. Long Beach has so many creative people, artists, makers, musicians, and entrepreneurs, and that is one of the things I love most about the city.
I would also plan a day around the water. Maybe kayaking through the Naples canals, taking a harbor cruise, or just spending time near Alamitos Bay. Long Beach is not just a beach city; it is a port city, a boating city, a neighborhood city, and a very community-driven city.
For a slower day, I would take them to El Dorado Park or the nature center. It is such a peaceful part of Long Beach and shows another side of the area that visitors might not expect. Then we could grab lunch nearby and keep the day easy.
By the end of the week, I would want them to understand that Long Beach is not just one thing. It is beach days, family-owned restaurants, vintage shops, waterfront views, community events, art, music, history, and people who really care about where they live. I was born and raised here, so showing someone Long Beach would not just be about taking them to the most popular places. It would be about showing them the heart of the city: the neighborhoods, the local businesses, the creative energy, and the people who make it feel like home.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would dedicate my shoutout to my family, my team, and the people who have trusted me along the way.
My husband, Ken, deserves so much credit. He has been part of the journey with me, not only as my partner in life but also as someone who understands the pace, pressure, and heart that goes into hospitality and events. Having someone who believes in the vision and is willing to stand beside you through the long days, late nights, and unpredictable moments means everything.
I also want to recognize my team. In this industry, the final product may have one company name attached to it, but it is never built by one person. Every event depends on the people who show up prepared, polished, and ready to serve with care. I am incredibly grateful for the staff, captains, bartenders, and behind-the-scenes support who help bring each event to life.
And finally, I would credit every client, vendor, mentor, and past opportunity that helped shape me. Every event teaches you something. Every challenge builds resilience. Every person who trusted me with their celebration, production, or vision played a part in my story.
