Meet Brooke Daye: Artist and Songwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Brooke Daye and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brooke, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Taking risks always feels like the scariest thing we can do at the time of making a big decision. You’re putting your faith, hopes, and dreams into the unknown. And a lot of the time, we take our chances anyway. The biggest risk I took in my life and career was moving to LA without really knowing anyone or having opportunities lined up. I was scared out of my mind, unsure of what to do or how to be seen in the music industry. So I went to every networking event that I could, and wrote with anyone who wanted to write with me. I sent cold emails out to the business side of the industry, went to/played shows- all of the basic things you should do. And eventually, I started to grow a small community of people that were both friends and collaborators. 10 months into moving to LA, I was offered my first publishing deal. It helped me make a job out of something I love, and collect incredible experiences along the way. It’s been almost 5 years since I moved, and I’m grateful that I took a risk for music! 

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am both a songwriter and an artist. I write from a personal place- sometimes my songs feel like a diary entry, or the conversation I wish I had with someone. I think I’ve had a lot of peaks and pits in a short amount of time. Taking these emotions and putting them into songs is therapeutic for me, and want other people to find comfort in my music too. The music I write for my artist project is very pop with a sprinkle of emo: moody, anthemic, and filled with emotion.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Before the pandemic, I used to love to have nights out in Hollywood and West Hollywood with my friends. We would barhop along Santa Monica Blvd or Hollywood Blvd- you can’t really go wrong! The Griffith Observatory has been a place I’ve taken friends from out of town. I love the planetarium there. And I love the hiking trails throughout the city too…it’s hard to pick one!

I dedicate my shoutout to my family and friends. They helped push me to follow and create from my heart!
