We had the good fortune of connecting with Alicia Blue and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alicia, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
Staying with myself. The moment you leap outside to someone else’s idea of you, chaos ensues. Someone else’s idea of an album cover, or a lyric, or a way to phrase. Of course I’m open to other opinions, but checking in with myself over and over again is the one tool I’d never be able to exist without.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I type this as I sit in Nashville after 2 weeks of writing sessions. I’m pretty wiped but also surer than ever. This is a culmination of the last 5 years. Was it easy? I don’t think so, but that’s the point. I transcended my challenges by sitting in the corner most people call insane 🙂 I’ve learned to stay with myself. And most of all, be a good fucking friend to myself. I’d want the world to know I’m on your side. Unless it doesn’t feel right with me.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would hike Switzer Falls in Angeles Forrest near La Crescenta. Then have Pho in eagle rock at Chateau Lemongrass. Then go a little west to the best dive bar in LA, Cozy Inn, in Culver City. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have to shoutout 3 people that have been critical to my career. Each coming from a different angle. Diana Zaheer my teacher. Brian Ross my manager. Tammie Valer my best friend and photographer. Lauren Ruth Ward, fellow LA artist who believed in me at the start, and Hayley Johnson, who brought you and I together for this interview 🙂
