We had the good fortune of connecting with Amber Monique and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amber, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my success is, applying myself. Application creates success, because you never know where one attempt can get you. Never get tired of applying.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a plus-size model. I started this journey in late 2015. I had a lot of challenges in the beginning. I had a well paying 9 to 5 that I invested years in, but it wasn’t my dream. I felt like it was now or never, and I took a leap of faith, Left everything I knew that was stable. I wanted to model solely. I thought I would just go to castings and start booking jobs, that was far from what happened. I struggled to be seen, to book jobs, or even get an agent the first two years. Money was running low and I was thinking about finding another 9 to 5, instead I got a side job and kept driving 62 miles both ways to los Angeles almost everyday hoping to land a job. Eventually over time I became a familiar face and started adding experience to my resume and started getting noticed 3 years later. In 2018 I debuted on television which by far is one of my proudest moments ever. that same year I walked in Los Angeles fashion week which was on my bucket list, and in 2019 I walked in New York fashion Week than everything else was a domino effect I started working with brands like forever 21, Lulu’s and more. I felt like my consistency and application paid off. I made a promise to myself to never give up, I woke up everyday and applied myself. What I’ve learned is winning is a choice. A choice that requires sacrifice. What I want the world to know is don’t let other people define you or your limitations you can do whatever you put your mind to, I am a living testimony.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am a vegetarian so I definitely would show my bff one of the best vegetarian spots I love which is veggie grill. We definitely would have to hit a so-cal beach like San Monica pier a little fun in the sun than a bonfire and smores ,catching up on good times. I am a Adrenaline junkie so six flags would be another awesome place for great laughs and memories. But nothing’s better than a relaxing day at Glen ivy hot springs spa for a little girls time. Lastly I couldn’t let her leave without seeing the beautiful gardens and museum of the Huntington library
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to recognize a celebrity stylist and public figure Lawrence Zarian. I was a model that constantly was over looked and under estimated. At one point I questioned whether I was in the right career. Lawrence Zarian gave me a chance, believed in me, and put me on television, an which I aired on several episodes of The Home & Family show on the Hallmark channel. I am forever grateful to him because he made one of my wildest dreams come true.
