We love ourselves a good quote and so we asked our community to share their favorite quotes and affirmations with us and we’ve highlighted some below.

I’ve always been very fascinated by the epilogue to Ovid’s Metamorphoses. He claims proudly in the concluding sentences, “Wherever the might of Rome extends in the lands she has conquered, the people shall read and recite my words. Throughout all ages, if poets have vision to prophesy truth, I shall live in my fame”. This is a remarkably proud statement– with a slight hint of arrogance, I will say. However, I think it serves as a great reminder to people who create art: it’s very important to always consider the legacy you are leaving behind when you add to a body of work. Read more>>

Claude Monet once said, ”color is my day-long obsession, joy, and torment.” I believe colors can convey feelings and emotions. I’m always fascinated by working with bold and playful colors that make one feel optimistic. I believe art & design can spread positive energy to the world and bring pleasure to everyone. Ooh good question. As an actor, I’d say I have many favorite quotes. But there is one I always think of and recite to myself whenever things get tough and I need some self motivation & encouragement. (And techinically it’s a prayer). “[God] grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.” I wouldn’t say I’m a religious man per se, but I had a strong Buddhist upbringing that gave me a solid spiritual foundation. And although my favorite quote stems from a different religion, the spiritual significance to me parallels alot of the life lessons I learned thru Buddhism. Read more>>

“I think sometimes you have to just imagine something that looks pretty impossible. By imagining something that is impossible, automatically you wish you could make it possible.”-Wim Wernders When I come up with a project idea. I always talk to myself to dream it bigger even though I don’t have any resources yet. Once you feel you truly believe what you want to do, you will start to make it impossible to be possible. ‘Never put a wishbone where you’re backbone should be’ I love this quote because it gets right to the heart of the matter in one swoop. Yes, I believe in positive affirmations, but I think you have to combine those with practical action, which initially can feel daunting. A good of mine told me that luck is where preparation meets opportunity, and so if you can muster up the courage in yourself to move through the fear, and fuse some gumption with belief, you’re going to go a long way. Be brave, go get it! Read more>>

This is going to seem a bit dark but I promise it’s not. My favorite quote is, “The definition of hell is: On your last day on Earth, the person you became will meet the person you could have become.” — Anonymous I know it seems dark but I’m a person who loves to read quotes, or even needs them to help me put things into perspective sometimes, and this quote stopped me in my tracks. It’s one thing to tell someone to work hard to achieve that lifestyle, career, body, whatever it is you want – it’s another to paint a picture of: you can sit on your couch, or go to that job you hate daily, or stay in that mediocre relationship, but imagine one day you will meet and shake hands with the person you could have become. Your present circumstances don’t determine where you can go; they merely determine where you start.” —Nido Qubein There are plenty of quotes, affirmations, passages, etc that I’ve saved over time – but this one has been instrumental in my growth as an individual. In 2012, I was a 320lb man who struggled with depression and anxiety masking my pain with eating and drinking, eventually leading to an attempt to take my own life on my 21st birthday after my Father had suddenly passed away from a heart attack. I had hit rock bottom and I could see no way out of that pain and suffering. Little did I know that my life was only beginning. Read more>>

I recently heard Will Smith talking about sky diving and he said “God places the best things on the other side of fear.” I don’t know if he was the originator of this saying but it really stuck out to me and made me think of all the things I recently have been going through. As of right now, this quote is set as my phone background to remind me everyday to live my life in love instead of fear. Read more>>

‘Everything happens for a reason’ is a quote that I live by. Life throws multiple different experiences at you every single day and a lot of it is uncontrollable. This quote allows me to keep my focus forward and to stay out of a victim mentality. I believe that all experiences (the ugly and the magical) are lessons for expansion and growth. Don’t allow an experience/situation to hold you by your throat. Take charge and sit in the presence of God, knowing that there is a reason for all. We might not know that reason at the time, but through your journey, the puzzle pieces begin to fit together and make sense. Read more>>

While I was in college studying math I was fortunate enough to work for and get to know a number of artists, some of which are no longer with us. I have many of them to thank for getting me on my path. I remember being with George Rickey in his workshop, while he was getting the balance and movement just right on one of his kinetic sculptures. He said to me, “Whether or not it is art, it is interesting to me.” That stuck with me since he said it about 30 years ago. I decided early on not to take commissions and just make what I want, what I find interesting. Thanks George. I also worked for Beatrice Wood. She once told me that her craft did not come easy to her, she just worked hard. Read more>>
