There’s a poem by one of my favorite poets, Louise Gluck, called Snowdrops and the end line says “… afraid, yes, but among you again crying yes risk joy. in the raw wind of the new world.” Life is full of incalculable risks, nothing is guaranteed. The are two quotes that I like. The first is, “We can’t all be good at everything.” It warns me that my time is limited. I can not do everything I want. So, doing what I truly love is the best way to use my time.” Another one is, “I don’t care what you think about me. I don’t think about you at all.” I think it means that we can’t be good enough for everyone. So I would like to focus on what I am doing rather than fretting over what people think of me. When it comes to producing, my favorite affirmation is that there’s no such thing as a bad idea. As long as the idea can inspire another one, that in itself makes it an idea worth pursuing. I used to struggle with song writing because I wanted every idea to be perfect. But ever since someone gave me this tip, whenever I face writers block, I try to step back and just create something ridiculous. And sometimes in the process of doing that, an idea might spark. My favorite quote is “Vincit qui se vincit”, which mean “ he conquers who conquers himself”. Even though I attended an all Girls high school, this was our school motto and it has stuck with me ever since. I believed it so much I got it tattooed on my arm a few years after graduation. I am not really a risk taker but I do believe if you can overcome your own fears, you can overcome anything.
