We had the good fortune of connecting with Frelecia King and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Frelecia, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my business were based on three components. Those three components were control over my life, job creation, and pursuit of happiness. I have always had an entrepreneur spirit. Going to a 9-5 was something that I had to do but it was never something I wanted to do. My career in the childcare field was enjoyable. I love working with children, but I did not love working for someone else. What I love was the thought of having control over my life and not having to ask someone to approve time-off so that I can take a vacation with my family, or having to show documentation for taking a sick day, or anyone telling me what time I had to report to the office. I have always visualized myself being the one who signed the checks and the only way I could do that was to develop jobs for my community. I needed to pursue my happiness. I concluded that the only way I could do that was to follow my heart and start my entrepreneur journey.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
jGO-TAB Luxury Event Childcare is a nationwide company that provides childcare entertainment for weddings and corporate events. Not only do we proved experienced childcare providers, but we also change ordinary spaces into Fun Zones for the kiddos. The parents can enjoy their event with a peace of mind in knowing that their children are nearby. What sets us apart from others is that our Sitters are all certified teachers or early childhood educators. Our Sitters bring that classroom experience to our events. As a result, our events are fun, creative, organized, and safe. There is a lot that goes on behind the scene of GO-TAB. When I started my company, I knew I wanted to provide a service that would contribute to society. I am most proud of our community service program. One of our missions is to contribute to the betterment of the future generation. We have created a mentorship program for minority girls between the ages of 6-16. Our program teaches young girls life skills, etiquette skills, self-defense skills, and entrepreneurship. We also provide free conference childcare 3 times a year to selected non-profit organizations. Finally, we provide educational resources, and classroom materials for our Sitters. Every year our Sitters receive a “Teacher Box”. This donation box is put together by the GO-TAB Administrative staff and shipped to our sitters across the country. The Teacher Box is equipped with classroom décor and learning materials. We are advocates for teachers and children across the country and we will continue to do our part. Starting a business is easy but not giving up is hard. I have had to jump over a lot of hurdles and face a lot of obstacles. However, I would not change anything that has happened. I have learned to embrace the struggle and I have turn them into valuable lesson. Those lessons has made my company the success that it is today.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My friends and I are very low key. We enjoy shopping, tacos, and chilling out on the beach. Firsts things first, we would go to The Grove. The Grove has a great atmosphere equipped with some of our favorite retail stores. Next, we would visit Sugar Taco. Sugar taco has amazing vegan tacos! Finally, I would take my bestie on a beach tour to see some of those most amazing beaches in Los Angeles and the surrounding cities.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to give a shout out to a few people in my life. The first person I would love to give a shoutout to is my mom, Lecia King. She is an amazing mother who has encouraged me throughout my life. She is no stranger to entrepreneurship. She has a successful law firm in Atlanta GA, and she has been my go to person when ever I needed advice. I would also like to think Almeasha Vickers. I couldn’t of ask for a better cheerleader and bestfriend. She has been there since the creation of my company. She has played a huge roll in my success and I couldn’t thank her enough. Last but not least I would like to thank all of my clients who has entrusted the GO-TAB team with their children. If it wasn’t for my faithful clients GO-TAB Luxury Event Childcare would not have grown to be a national childcare service.
