We had the good fortune of connecting with Julissa Prado and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Julissa, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind the success of my brand Rizos Curls is what I call the three C’s — Curls, Community, and Culture. These are the three things that lead the passion within me and what has lead to monumental success for the brand. Rizos Curls is a trifecta of my products for undeniably beautiful, healthy curls, my Latino culture which we celebrate at every touchpoint and the community we honor and uplift. Whatever I do with the brand I make sure those three things are always incorporated.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Founded in October 2017, Rizos Curls is a Latina-owned hair care brand creating products that embrace and celebrate the beauty of curls, kinks & waves everywhere. Rizos Curls is focused on providing quality curl care for defined, healthy, voluminous natural curls. As a little girl, I saved my money to buy every curl product I found, but nothing seemed to work on my hair type. I went through many phases with my curly hair. I hid it in a gelled-down ponytail, wore it a la crunchy with extra hairspray, and even straightened it with a clothing iron! Eventually, I began mixing my own product at home and I told myself that one day I would create the very best product for curly-haired girls like me. I spent years developing the perfect formula and knew that I wanted a product made with quality ingredients that would be inclusive and celebrate all curl types, from my Tia’s coily strands to my sister’s loose waves. Today, with Rizos Curls, it is an honor being able to help other curly haired people look beautiful and feel confident in their natural hair texture. We have been very blessed to have had so much support from our curly community. Now, in under three years and as a completely self-funded independently owned brand, Rizos Curls has amassed a global following of #RizosReinas with more than 191,000 followers on social media, has shipped to over 57 countries and we announced our first national retail partner, Target, in January 2020.
