We had the good fortune of connecting with June Chiang and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi June, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
The Pilates and movement industry really is all about being willing to take the time and effort to build relationships. Getting to know our clients in a healthy positive way is so important to everyone’s success. If the relationship focuses on mind body awareness and the wellness journey, then anything is possible. Thus, working with the utmost integrity, respect, and empathy, is just as important as physical fitness.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Pilates On Robertson LLC thrives on change and growth. Our whole mission from our early days, twenty years ago, was founded on the idea that people can change, grow, and feel better. We have worked hard to be all inclusive. No matter what your body type, fitness level, background, or history, we will do our utmost to create a work out and movement plan that will help you accomplish your goals.

It just takes commitment and an open mind on the student’s part and we will provide a very high quality, personalized movement training program with the latest and most effective techniques. Our teachers keep up with continuing education and the science of movement. We also spend a lot of time creating specific exercises and protocols for each client. We listen carefully to the client, in order to meet each individual’s needs.

For instance, we recently developed new virtual session theraband protocols for shoulder and tech neck relief and knee/hip/low pain management. Our fun and creative physioball routines for spine mobility and scoliosis add necessary variety to our virtual work during the pandemic Safer At Home mandate. We have also loved challenging clients by taking them to the next level in the safety of their homes with virtual cardio, strength, and osteo programs with sliders and weights.

Quarantine and COVID-19 do not mean we get to rest by any means. Instead we view it as a challenge and opportunity to serve more people and keep our community healthy and strong with our virtual group classes and virtual private sessions. We are so motivated to keep our Los Angeles community moving!

As we look to the future and the eventual reopening of the studio, we have the luxury of seeing clients individually in our very airy open bright space so we can provide an oasis environment for isolated sessions. Our clients can be very safe and have amazing work outs on many different pieces of beyond the typical Pilates Cadillac and Reformer. Students can experience the GYROTONIC™ Expansion System, Knee-Leg Extension Unit, and Gyrotoner. We are so fortunate to have a convenient location and space to provide exclusive, solitary privates and semi-privates.

Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
Los Angeles is such an amazing expansive landscape, just waiting for exploration and adventure.  One of our favorite things to do is walking on the beach and listening to the mind clearing ocean waves on the shore. There are so many beaches to choose from with an easy drive up the coast.  Just driving up PCH on any day, clear or foggy is so relaxing and reminds us that nature is right around the corner from our city digs.  And if we’re on a drive along the coast, how can you pass up on the chance to pick up delicious fish taco’s at any one of the restaurants on the road side?

I love taking hikes, which are so much fun and great exercise with amazing views.  Nothing beats the satisfaction of making it to the top, either alone or with someone special!  The Baldwin Hills Outlook is great for a city walk and there are wonderful challenging and fragrant trails in the Palisades and Malibu, too.  Meandering on a trail, surrounded by trees, birds, and hills, really lifts the spirits.  Then a refreshing tailgate picnic with goodies from the market is the perfect reward after a leg burning trek.

Making a run to the San Gabriel Valley for Dim Sum is also a must. There’s a nondescript little hut that still delivers out of their little window ever since my childhood!! Growing up with burritos and taquitos from East LA, El Tepeyac stands out in my mind.  Amazing guacamole!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to give credit to all our amazing clients who have committed to getting healthier and stronger at Pilates On Robertson LLC. Some clients have worked with us for over 15 years and just keep getting better.  It is so impressive to witness how hard they work in our sessions,  push through the challenges, improve their form, and learn new movements.  It is so rewarding when both the client and instructor discover new possibilities for their mind body journey.

There have been some incredible superstar clients who have not slowed down, but upped their game during these challenging times and I see the positive changes.  We are moving through this, together.
