We had the good fortune of connecting with Aaron Carlson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Aaron, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I have never looked at decisions we make as risks. They are choices. Every decision we make has its pros and cons and that’s the trick. A risk is something… that I believe, people say when they don’t fully understand what it takes to make a dream come true. Every time I’ve made a decision about something someone usually tries to deter me from taking that step. Their intentions for the most part are good however how does one grow without stepping outside of our own comfort zones? Risks make the difference between those that make it and those that settle. In my life, every time I took a chance, took on a risk, something great happened. From career choices, to family, to emotional growth… whenever I stepped away from my comfort zone I have become a better person. Risks are a gift that we shouldn’t ignore.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve loved stories since I was a kid. From tv, movies, comics, novels… wherever there was a story I gravitated towards. I truly believe in story. No matter what. I don’t think that separates me from other storytellers however I take it very seriously and do my best in making sure that it is the essence of what CCC Entertainment Group stands for. Without an intriguing and well thought out story I truly feel like any filmmaker will get lost in the shuffle. Your voice is all you have that is yours and yours alone. Use it!

I’m very proud of our team and what we’ve managed to accomplish in such a short amount of time. Since we released our first feature The Outrider in 2019 we haven’t stopped. Even with the pandemic hitting shortly after we found a way to stay creative with our podcast Around The Reel. And that step pushed us even faster in the direction we wanted to go. Joining Together is our company motto and our podcast helped us reach creatives all over the world to share their stories, their successes and their passions and also create a hub for ALL who want to work with other likeminded individuals in the industry! I’m super proud of the show and how its resonated through the filmmaking community.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned is to not quit. Don’t let anything stand between your goals and your success. No one will believe in you more than YOU! That’s what I live by everyday. You just have to keep going.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Wow… tough question! Especially since I’m a home body! Honestly I’d say we’d definitely hit the IMAX theater for a flick for sure! I love cooking so I’d offer them some great home cooked meals but if they demanded we go out to eat I love Stanley and Seaforts here in Tacoma! The restaurant overlooks the city and the food is fantastic! I’d definitely take them over the Tacoma Narrows Bridge as well and tell them about the myth of The Giant Pacific Octopus! That story is so cool we had to make a documentary about it! The area we live is beautiful so going anywhere would be a pleasant surprise I think!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have to give a shoutout to my fiancé Samantha Hanna. She has stuck by me throughout this crazy journey and I couldn’t be more fortunate to have her in my corner. She’s not only my best friend but someone I look up too. Her level of patience and understanding are heroic! I’ve never met anyone in my life that could put up with challenges better than she does! I can tell you that I’ve had my ups and downs over the years and without her truthful guidance who knows how this all could’ve turned out. I admire her will, her faith and her perseverance. She’s truly my muse, my angel and sometimes my coach to put me back in check! She’s dope!

I’d also like to shoutout my friend Charles Lawson who I’ve known for 30 years. He’s been by my side through this filmmaking journey and has gotten my back since 2001 when I got this crazy idea we could make movies! DV Cam and Windows Movie Maker was all we had but that’s where we started! We both share the same passion for film and without him none of this would feel right!
