We had the good fortune of connecting with Abraham Chavez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Abraham, why did you pursue a creative career?
Simple. I fell in love with playing the guitar. Since the age of 9, I knew that playing guitar is all I’ve ever wanted to do. It’s a creative tool, a way for me to express myself. Whether that’s through my own music, someone else’s or even a cover band gig. I’ll always enjoy what I do.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I was 9 years old when I accidentally discovered Metallica’s sophomore album, Ride the Lightning. I had never heard anything quite like it. So aggressive, fast, and especially heavy! It blew me away. Shorty after that my parents enrolled me in a music school in Whittier called Pure Rock Studios. This is where I learned my chops. Where I learned different styles of music. Where I learned to play with other people and started gigging. This was unique experience I’ll never forget. When I got to college my musical endeavors grew so much more. I started studying jazz music, playing incredible gigs with incredible people. My attention to detail in music Who is expanded upon. I’ve learned so much since and I’m very thankful for everyone that has helped me along the way so far. I’m also very thankful for all the groups/artist/bands that have me play with them. Playing with these people is so much fun. I’m so lucky. When pandemic was starting to go away and things were still a little wired in the world I woke up everyday thankful that I get to do what I do. It’s truly a blessing to play music and I’ll always enjoy it no matter what song I’m playing, what place I’m playing at, or who I’m playing with. I love what I do.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Grill Em All in Alahambra is a MUST go! Incredible burgers! Always worth it! California donuts in LA is really great too! I really enjoy playing at The Mint in LA. The Greek theater in LA is one of my favorite spots to go catch live music! Always a great time there and no bad seats!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Molly Billman, it’s been a pleasure playing in her band. She’s one of hardest working people I know!
