Meet Abriana Vicioso | Model, Artist, and Creatrix

We had the good fortune of connecting with Abriana Vicioso and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Abriana, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I am proudly multicultural being one of the first in my family born in the country. My father is Puerto Rican and Dominican. And on my mothers side I am a first generation American, my mother migrated from Germany in her childhood. My background impacts who I am in so many ways as my culture plays a huge role in my expression and inspiration. Coming from a family of immigrants, first gen Americans, artist, blue collar workers, and entrepreneurs… I was born into the world with eyes wide and dreams bigger than my ancestors could ever imagine possible. My upbringing was not an easy one, born to low income teen parents the first part of our life was an uphill battle. But there was one thing my family never lacked, and that was a belief that I had a special gift that the world was meant to see. So many of my family members have incredible creative abilities, that society never allowed them to explore for the sake of survival and the need to provide. They had to put food on the table so they worked hard and their gifts remained behind closed doors. I knew I wanted to create a better life for my family by simply allowing my inner light to shine. The light that comes from my ancestors and the blood in my veins that fuels my creativity. I knew I wanted to bring the creative gift that runs in my blood to life. My gifts are a part of who I am, and my background is the reason I will never give up on my dreams. Para mis ancestros.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am consider myself a creatrix. A person in continuous co creation with the universe and creative energy force that we are made up of. I see life and something as simple as our breathe as a work of art. I have always loved to create since childhood. Whether I’m painting, applying makeup, cooking, writing, singing, or simply getting dressed I’m always in mode of creation. It’s who I am! Today professionally I have the blessing to be a creative producer and art director in the beauty and fashion industry. It wasn’t easy, I had little to no example of what it looked like to pursue a creative career. I did by trying! I dipped my toes in every medium, free class, and opportunity I could get my hands on eventually leading me to Los Angeles lead producing on set, art directing, and leading teams to bring amazing visions to life. I overcame challenges by leaning into community support like friends, therapy, and meditation. And I never gave up. I learned along the way that imposter syndrome is REAL and hard to work through, but perseverance and a little delusion will get you right to where you need to be. I want the world to know, it’s time for more queer, plus size, bipoc/Latina, women to lead the way in the creative industry. And I’m here to be a part of it!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Being new to LA I came here with a big city dream, and realized there is SO much in the beautiful state we live in. So here’s my week itinerary:
– First stop a trip to Joshua Tree! Vintage shopping, desert views, and stargazing.
– It’s the weekend let’s dance! I’m definitely having a bite at Bacari silverlake before we head to one of my favorite bars, The Short Stop. If we get really lucky the best Puerto Rican/Domican party will be in town “Capicua” with amazing food and music all night.
-Can’t forget a good street taco or hot dog after the bar
– Watch the Sunset at Angels Pointe in Elysian park after a sunny picnic with Mexican corn and Chamoy drizzled fruit
-Beach day at El Matador Beach in Malibu
-Montys Good Burger for the vegan version of in and out
– Stop by Persona the shop for some Latina owned shopping
-Grand Central Market for all the good eats, if it’s a Sunday Smorgasbord at The Row.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shout out my loved ones who have supported my dreams since childhood, and who always made me feel like a star. To my fiancé Jensine Gomez who has held my hand in growth every step of the way, and provided unconditional love and support to me on this journey. To my agency for seeing me and providing a platform to follow my dreams to be a plus size model. And to my spirit guides for guiding me to this moment.
