Meet Adam Gascho | Filmmaker, Fine Artist & Musician

We had the good fortune of connecting with Adam Gascho and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Adam, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
Exercising my creative ambitions is something that I have to do and there isn’t a question of giving up. Giving up creatively means to me, that if you haven’t found enough financial success with your art you should face the reality that you don’t have what it takes. Give up. If you can’t support yourself as an artist are you really an artist? It makes some people embarrassed for you if you keep trying and don’t find a wider audience. I will continue to make art for the rest of my life even if it all ends up in a dumpster.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is defined by my desire to push the limits. How much can I distill my focus into a singular act, dot or stroke. When I start something new I look for ways to push it beyond anything that I have done before. I think what sets any artist apart is their background. Everyone has a unique perspective that reflects through what they create.
At this point, the thing excites me the most is recognizing that I am the only one standing in the way of continuing to create new pieces and projects. That is the hard part. Getting out of your own way.
I am not familiar with the word easy. Goals come at a cost and are never easy.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The best time ever with me includes going to the LA river, the side opposite the bike path between the 2 and the 110.. There are interesting art installations, graffiti pits, and sense of wildness not found anywhere else in LA. I would go to the Piñata District to find the best street tacos and burritos. I also like to hike so probably going up in Griffith Park to see a view of the city and everything else.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
As a filmmaker I have always relied on team. Every project has brought in new people that were invaluable to the creation of the final piece. I would like to recognize my main collaborators: Dave Cepero, Skyler Pinkerton and Jason Halogen.
