We had the good fortune of connecting with Adam Welton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Adam, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Society is structured against people who take risks. Unfortunately, It’s easier to be a robot, a slave to the system, a ‘yes man.” It makes 8 billion people easier to control. What would society be like on the other end if everyone was always taking extreme risks at all times? Complete chaos! This is why creators, artists, and people like us are viewed as anomalies, eccentric, or sometimes they “celebrate” who we are because of the risks they’ve seen us take, which is where we get the word “celebrity.” When I traveled abroad at 20 years old and lived in Cairo, Egypt for four months when I had never been outside of the country, it was an insurmountable risk! However, I arrived back home to Chicago in one piece, but now with a more international mindset than the narcissistic “America over everybody” perspective you get from being raised in this country. When i quit my full-time job at 25 years old working for Disney, it was a huge risk. I walked away from a steady paycheck, benefits, and “security” to ramen noodles and overdraft fees. A black man with a full-time job quit?! My father and a lot of my other mentors thought I was crazy! Well, they were right but, lo and behold that was just the birth of DJ Mad Hatter and Mad Hatter Entertainment. Even as a comedian every time i go on stage and tell jokes, it’s a huge risk, but i always walk away mentally sharper, and sometimes maybe even a little bit funnier. Why live life complacent? Why stay comfortable in your little bubble? Why are you so happy with being boring? It’s time to wake up and live! After going through so much and coming out alive and healthy, I can’t help but to be faithful in knowing that God will take me through the next risk just like he did my last 35 years of taking risks. Except motorcycle riding, that’s a risk I am not willing to take just yet. I have to wait until my kids grow up before I step on that death trap.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Mad Hatter Entertainment consists of the 1Hunnid Podcast, me as an actor, and my DJ services. The 1Hunnid Podcast is a Youtube Show where we focus on the entertainment industry from a comedic and hip hop perspective. We highlight and interview upcoming music artists, comedians, and award-winning celebrities. The podcast has helped me be consistent with my art in the digital age. If you consider yourself some type of artist or performer in 2021, and you don’t have a digital presence online, you are behind in times! I’ve uploaded two short films, some DJ Mixes, a lyric video, go pro footage of me riding a bike, camping footage of my family and I, a smart home review, & dozens of clips from the full episodes. The Youtube page itself is home to more than just the podcast, it’s a platform for you to see what Mad Hatter Entertainment is all about.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
So we’re going to pretend that Covid doesn’t exist right? Okay great! Well I took my brothers who were born in raised in the suburbs of Chicago, IL on an amazing whale-watching cruise! That’s something you can’t do in Lake Michigan. We saw dolphins and whales and they really enjoyed it. I’m a fan of starting on Groupon, and working backwards from there. I like that LA is close enough to San Diego, San Francisco, Vegas, and Phoenix. Back in Chicago, you drive 5 hours the you’ll only find corn. Just corn. My wife and I have had many fun adventures thoughout the years including parasailing, camping, and of course we love Venice Beach! We always take our relatives there when they come. I’m just happy we have a Gino’s East here in the valley so I can get some of that good old Chicago Deep Dish here in LA.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First of all my relationship with God. He protects and cares for me and my family. He loves me more than a man or woman ever could despite my circumstances, habits, behaviors, tone, or personality flaws. He gives me the most confidence to push on and achieve despite what naysayers may say. Secondly, I have to give a shoutout to my parents for setting a firm spiritual foundation for me growing up. My mom was 16 when I was born and my dad was 18, so they were kids figuring it out along the way. Six sons and seven grandchildren later, I’d say they’re doing alright!
And of course I have to give a shoutout to my beautiful wife! We moved to Los Angeles two days after we got married. She’s been my number one everything ever since! I’m so grateful to have my spicy Puerto Rican mamacita by my side everywhere I go!

I have to give a shoutout to all the ‘NUPEs!” These are members of Kappa Alpha Psi. Fraternity, Inc. Yo!

Of Course I have to give a shoutout to my agent Luxe Talent Agency and Monroe Talent Management! MJ from Luxe has been with me for a few years and she has always had my back. I’m thankful for the relationship we have, and for all the roles she has submitted me on that I didn’t book. Victoria Monroe and I just signed with her management company a few months ago and has already been a tremendous asset to #teamWelton. I’m thankful to be represented by such an amazing squad!
