We had the good fortune of connecting with Adelmari Rodriguez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Adelmari, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Choosing to pursue art as a career, is a risk. Artists surrender to the fact of not knowing every detail within our journey. Holding on to our love for the art we chose to pursue, is what allows us to continue making the sacrifices that get us to where we want to be within our career. Risk and surrender make up the core of our reality. For me, taking risk and surrendering has gotten me to places I never imagined I thought I’d be. I’ve booked dope jobs, met amazing people, got to live in beautiful spaces… all because I stayed true the love I have for what I do. I risked not knowing, not making ends meet, not making other people proud. Taking these risk have also brought me to the truest version of myself. I now embody a whole new level confidence.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I love being from The Bronx, New York. I love being reminded of where I come from, whenever I unintentionally see pieces of Bronx culture in my art. I’ve always been the type to “do everything”. I just love a lot of different facets of art, and I never saw a reason to not “do it all”.
Getting to where I am in my career, wasn’t easy but things that come easy aren’t as fun. When things got tough, I’d pray, meditate, and remind myself of the real reason I’m choosing to take a path less traveled by. Which is love. Whether it be for dancing, singing, acting, choreographing, dj-ing, writing music, modeling, or teaching and giving back to my community. Yeah, I love a handful of things.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
A perfect day would be walking over to Trader Joes, getting some pre-made salads and chocolate covered bananas for dessert. Then find the nearest bench and enjoy. Or, take a Lyft or Uber (because I’m originally from NYC – we don’t drive haha)
to Manhattan beach, but first stop by my favorite food spot, Lemonade.
Get the mango chicken bowl and enjoy it on the beach… wow can I do this right now please.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shoutout to my family and friends! They are my number one supporters. I am so thankful to have friends who go along with all of my new endeavors.
My parents hold me DOWN. They may not understand everything about my professional career, but they always managed to pull through, and make sure I have what I need to succeed.
