Meet Ai Furusato | Pianist&composer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ai Furusato and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ai, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
I did most of my schoolwork by studying at home. The time efficiency and the ability to study when I wanted was perfect for me as I wanted to attend college as soon as possible, but I was worried about the risk of not having a normal student life when I decided to study at home. But risk, on the contrary, makes you prepared for it. When I felt the risk, I had a strong feeling and motivation to pursue my goal more.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started learning jazz when I was 9 years old, and I studied so hard without practicing the piano to attend music college as soon as possible. I successfully graduated from high school when I was 12 years old, and I enjoy being a student of Berklee College of Music right now. I didn’t like to study, but I made my effort by maintaining the motivation that I can learn more about music if I study hard now. I put a sheet of plan for my goal, and I read it aloud with imagining when I achieve it. That was a big part of my motivation.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love parks and gardens in Boston. The balance of traditional streets, cool modern buildings, and the abundant nature is so beautiful and it is good for my refreshment to go for a walk or to eat lunch outside.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mother owns a piano bar in the 1st floor of my house. Ever since I was a little child, that was my favorite place, and people who came were all my friends.
Everyday, there are people who love music in the piano bar, and they did jam session.
I became loving music because of that environment. I really appreciate to everyone I met there.
