We had the good fortune of connecting with AJ Quimson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi AJ, what do you want people to remember about you?
This is something I’ve thought about for a long time, even when I was a kid. The idea of death has always scared me and the best way I could think to live a meaningful life is to leave a legacy. I used to want part of my legacy to be “to do something that few men that have ever walked this earth have done”.

The other half of the legacy I wanted to leave, and the one that still remains predominately, is to just be known as a good person who was there for people and helped make everyones life better. This is the legacy I have always wanted to leave because I once heard a quote that said “people die twice. The first time is when you physically die and the second time is the last time someone ever says your name”. That really struck me and pushed my thinking into positively effecting as many people as possible.

When I die, I just want everyone to say “he was a good person, he cared, and he was always there for people”.

This is how I try to run my business. It’s built on the idea of being personable and connecting with people to help guide them to their goal.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My mission with the business is to help as many people as possible reach a point where they are happy and confident with the way they look in the mirror. My approach is a little different because of my experience as a professional bodybuilder, so I am very experienced at both fat loss and muscle growth. The biggest different though would be that although I have that experience as a professional bodybuilder, I am more focused on how to build people up to where they can continue living a fit and healthy lifestyle for the rest of their life. It’s not some quick fix plan to lose weight as fast as possible. It’s about making a lifestyle change that you can carry for the rest of your life so you can actually maintain and enjoy your results. The program is very personalized and we keep the relationship with clients very personable. Being able to give my experience and relate to client’s struggles has been key to being able to help break through plateaus and limiting beliefs.

I am most proud of the fact that our goal is to teach people how to maintain their results and many old clients still check up with me from time to time and let me know that they’re still maintaining their results. I’m proud of this because it gives them control and power over their lives and I know exactly how that feels. Seeing clients have long term success and even start coaching themselves has been amazing.

Getting the business to where it is now relied heavily on my experience as a professional bodybuilder. That’s where I went through all the trial, error, and struggles that everyone goes through when they’re trying to get in better shape. It also gave me the credibility for people to want to take my word because they know I am doing or have done anything that I will ask them to do. It definitely was not easy to build a business and it took me a long time to understand how to. Being a good coach and running a business are two different things. There’s a lot of things about business that you would never think about when you’re just focused on learning about training or nutrition. Learning how to run a business was a huge challenge for me but I learned that having a mentor is important.

Having a mentor changed everything for me with the business, which I should have put together seeing as how I am essentially selling fitness mentorship and understand how important that is. I am a very coachable person and am willing to follow directions but I am not always good at paving my own way. I’m the type of person who has to see that it can be done and how it was done before I can make my own way out of it. I’ve had many mentors in the past few years and it has helped me grow exponentially and is one of the greatest lessons I think any entrepreneur can learn. Find someone that has done what you’re trying to do, knows it so well that they can teach it, and is trustworthy. When you have a mentor like that and a belief in yourself that you will make things happen, everything falls into place.

Believing in myself was probably the biggest challenge that I had to overcome in the beginning. I knew I was a good coach but I just didn’t have the belief that I would be able to make it work. It’s easy to get intimidated by people/businesses that are much further along than you are and that can get discouraging. But, when you give yourself no other option than to make things work you will find yourself figuring out what you need to do to make it happen. Once you start to pick up some momentum your confidence in yourself skyrockets and you really start going. It all starts with a little leap of faith and maybe hitting rock bottom.

The brand is all about becoming the best version of yourself. Someone who shows up and does what they say they’re going to do and builds their confidence through their actions. It’s not about where you start or whether you’re struggling or not, because everyone will struggle at one point or another. But, struggling now doesn’t mean you’ll never make it to the goal. You just need to focus on being the best version of yourself every day and focusing on how you can be better, even if it’s in the smallest ways. Those little wins are compounding and eventually you’ll find yourself doing and achieving things you would’ve never imagined.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My wife deserves a lot of the credit of my success because she held me up when I couldn’t do it for myself anymore. There were a lot of times that I felt like giving up and times that I didn’t believe in myself but she always believed in me. She always told me to keep going and she knew that I would make things happen. There were a lot of risks and leaps of faith that I had to take to get to where I am now and I would have never taken them if she didn’t believe in me and motivate me to provide a better life for us.
