We had the good fortune of connecting with Alex Vincent and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alex, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?
I’m not currently a parent, but I hope to be one someday. While this question might seem like an unexpected choice coming from someone without children, I feel strongly about my answer. Consider it a glimpse into the future.

The most important thing I believe I can do as a parent is to be my children’s biggest supporter in whatever they choose to pursue. I’m a firm believer in following your dreams, and as someone who has incredibly supportive parents, I understand how powerful that encouragement can be. Having people who believe in you makes it easier to take risks and chase what you truly want in life.

Beyond dreams and ambitions, I think it’s just as important to show them consistent love, kindness, and compassion. Those qualities shape not only who they become, but how they treat others. If I can help them grow into people who uplift and positively impact someone else who may need it, that may be the most meaningful accomplishment of all.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Simply put, I create the kind of art I’d love to stumble across in the wild. The kind that brings back that electric, nostalgic rush of wandering the aisles at Hollywood Video, when joy and wonder lived in bright plastic cases.

I hope my work taps into those same emotions. That feeling of a simpler time, when the hardest decision in life was choosing between Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves and The Parent Trap. When you’d scan the shelves, heart pounding, chasing the white whale and praying the lone VHS copy of My Date with the President’s Daughter had finally been returned, so you could be the one to go to Club Alien.

If my art can give someone even a flicker of that feeling, that spark of excitement, or that sense of possibility – well, that’s the greatest reward as an artist.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If you’re coming to Chicago, we’re doing it right. The nightlife speaks for itself, but first things first: goin’ to the burbs for Chicago deep dish at Lou Malnati’s and the best Chicago dog you’ve ever had at Gene and Jude’s.

I’m big into jazz, so we’ll probably end up at The Green Mill or Andy’s Jazz Club in the city. Straightforward, good music, no gimmicks. If we want something a little more tucked away, we’ll head beneath The Hoxton Chicago in Fulton Market and grab a seat at Lazy Bird. Strong drinks, live music – a true hidden gem. But get there early because it fills up fast.

And if we’re staying near the suburbs but still want that same energy, we’ll go to The Pines Room. It has that dressed-up, night-out feel without dealing with downtown traffic. Same vibe, less chaos.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate this shout-out to the most important people in my life – my parents, my sister, and of course, my dogs. I can’t say enough about how special they are to me or how supportive they’ve been throughout my journey and into whatever comes next. They’ve truly been there for me through everything, and I’m endlessly grateful.
