Meet Alisa Walters | Co-founder, Fill My Role, Yogi and Hiker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alisa Walters and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alisa, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
As a small women-owned staffing and recruiting agency, Fill My Role has a significant social impact by promoting diversity and inclusion in the workplace. By actively working with companies and candidates with an inclusive approach, we are able to contribute to creating a more equitable society.
Also, Fill My Role acts as a strong advocate for our candidates and fosters a sense of community within our talent pool. Recognizing the arduous nature of the job search process, we strive to offer solace to job seekers and enhance efficiency for our hiring clients amidst this challenging market. While we may not guarantee job placements in every case, our utmost priority is to ensure individuals feel acknowledged and valued.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I co-founded Fill My Role together with my partner, Courtney, a year ago. FMR is a comprehensive staffing agency specializing in assisting companies with filling positions primarily in content and production, creative and marketing, and product management. Both Courtney and I began our careers in production and casting after college. Our firsthand experience in the industry provided us with invaluable insights into the unique nature of these roles, and we take pride in leveraging this understanding to effectively recruit for such positions.
In 2016, I sought to transition away from unscripted casting and had the opportunity to work as an in-house recruiter. Since then, I have worked with prominent media, technology, and entertainment companies like CBS Interactive (now Paramount) and Tonal. However, last summer, I faced a layoff which led my partner and me to have a conversation that resulted in the birth of our business. In a short span of time, we applied for our LLC, acquired a domain name, and developed our website.
What distinguishes us is our firsthand experience in the roles we fill, our ability to collaborate with hiring teams, establish trust, and streamline the hiring process. Ultimately, it’s the relationships we build that truly sets us apart. We genuinely listen to our clients and candidates, providing them with tailored solutions, and we genuinely care about their success.
The launch of Fill My Role was swift, and we were fortunate to immediately secure a significant client due to our commitment to nurturing relationships. As a new company, we’ve been lucky to have experienced continued victories despite this current job market. Being a business owner no matter what field comes with its challenges, and that should always be anticipated. There is no linear path and we take each challenge as a learning opportunity and refuse to let that hinder our progress and impact.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love this question! I love being a tour guide in L.A!
Hikes are a must! I will start with Fryman to get them warmed up and then off to Los Liones and Temescal for those gorgeous beach views. If time allows, I will take them to Chantry Flat near Pasadena.
For food, the spicy tuna on crispy rice at Katsuya in Studio City is a must. A delicious and spicy meal at Jitlada overseen by the lovely Jazz in Thai Town For a true Topanga Canyon experience, a trip to Inn of the Seventh Ray in Topanga. Malibu Seafood while watching a sunset. Beachwood Cafe, Tartine, Philippe The Original and Republique for breakfast and lunch options. Tacos from Grand Central.
For a sweet and/or coffee:
Erewhon Latte
Civil Coffee Americano
Strawberry financier or strawberry almond croissant at The Bakery at Farmshop LA
No trip to L.A. would be complete without visiting The Getty, Griffith Observatory and The Broad. Summer Fridays at LACMA if it’s a summer time visit.
A concert at The Hollywood Bowl or The Greek is a must for my out of town guests, too.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have an amazing group of people that lift me up and support me. So, I want to say a big thank you to my small village. You know who you are and it is your belief, unwavering love and support that keeps me going. Also, I’d like to give a huge shout out to my mom who has inspired me to do the best and be the best that I can be. I know my entrepreneurial spirit is not always easy for you but you love me unconditionally and support me no matter what! Thank you!
