We had the good fortune of connecting with ALONZO and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi ALONZO, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Id say balance is one of the most important factors to having a healthy life. Healthy balance leads to inner peace. When we can balance having ambition while being present we can find peace in knowing that we are in control of our happiness. Id say I’ve evolved because I use to be a bit of a workaholic. In the sense that anything that wasn’t work wasn’t a priority. I am now learning the more balance I have in my personal life, the better my mental can be and in response, the better my work can be. It’s all a cycle. Everything is related. When we understand that even the smallest imbalance can have an effect on another area of our life balance takes on a new form of importance. I want all areas of my life to be healthy. Mind, Body, & Spirit. Ill also just go ahead and say it….LOVE (A year ago I wouldn’t consider this to be a priority because in my opinion it can also be a distraction from work) but how do we not allow love to be a distraction? We BALANCE it with our independence.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a recording artist that use to be a dancer choreographer. I was off to a good start as a dancer after leading a dance crew to the semi finals on Americas Got Talent but for some reason I knew that there was something missing from my life. I wasn’t being fulfilled by dance alone. After Americas Got Talent, I left America and went to China to become a singer. I went on to headline 4 tours in China from 2013-2017. I was so proud to take my life into my own hands. It allowed me to save up enough money and move to LA and pursue a career in music full time. In 2019, I was selected to sing lead on the 4 U Prince Tour. This was the first Prince tribute tour ever sanctioned by the Prince Estate and I was the first lead singer ever approved by the Prince Estate to sing lead on this tour. This was a proud moment for me because it confirmed that I was making progress as a singer. I had to overcome so much doubt and fear leaving the dance world because often people don’t take serious the dancer that wants to become a singer. For many years I was insecure about my voice because of the trauma from people doubting me in the beginning. My accomplishments were proof that it was possible. March 2021 I released my debut “ENOUGH”. My Album Debuted in the Top 20 on the iTunes Rock Charts. When I look back and ask myself how I overcame my challenges the answer is simple. I DIDN’T GIVE UP. Consistency leads to progress and even when we are taking baby steps we are still moving forward. As long as we keep fighting, we will keep getting closer to our dreams.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Id take them to one of my favorite soul food spots in the Valley. A restaurant called “Sweet Blessings”. We would find an escape room and probably go to “The Goodnite” in North Hollywood for some karaoke. haha

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shout out my producer Eric Zayne. He produced and co wrote my entire Album. I literally don’t know where I would be had I not met this man. He is by far one of the most talented people I have ever met in my life and im so grateful to have him on my team.
