We had the good fortune of connecting with Amanda Tewes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amanda, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Since I was in high school, I had always thought that I would be a teacher. When I graduated from college, I wasn’t sure if I actually wanted to be a teacher or not. So, I began working in different sectors – PR, showroom management, sales, and eventually digital marketing. Throughout that journey, I learned what kind of a person I was and what best suited the lifestyle I wanted to have. I came to realize that I was someone who really wanted flexibility with my schedule and the freedom and opportunity to do all of the things that I really loved. In 2019 I began working for a digital marketing firm and I enjoyed it SO much. I loved the group of girls I worked with, what I was doing and how much I was learning. I had always been interested in social media and thought it was a great space for people to be as creative as they wanted to through beautiful imagery and graphics while also being able to gain a great amount of knowledge. Then, at the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020, I was sadly let go from my job. I was initially very discouraged, and then I started thinking about how I could start actually doing what I’ve wanted to for so many years, which was work for myself! So, I decided to go for it. I had a friend that knew of a local business that was looking for someone to run their social accounts. I ended up bringing them on as a client and started growing from there, and Faria Social came to be! Since then I have onboarded more social clients, branding clients, and I’ve had the opportunity to style some shoots for local brands and photographers. It has been a fun and wild ride so far and I’m so glad I went for it almost a year ago! Although we are still small, I’m very excited about our growth thus far and what’s in store for us in the future.
What should our readers know about your business?
Faria Social is a boutique creative agency dedicated to all things social. Our specialties include social media, public relations, personal styling, and branding. We work with a number of local businesses to help grow their presence on social media platforms, increase their following + customer base, and engage with our community in order to create and strengthen relationships with individuals, families, and other businesses. It’s taken a lot of time, education, hustle, and commitment to get where we are today. But, we’ve trusted the process because we believe that the hard work we’ve put in and the relationships that we’ve worked to build have helped us to grow authentically and organically. We are proud to work with all of the inspiring business owners that we do and to ultimately help grow the businesses that they are so passionate about! Along this journey, we’ve learned to be patient, genuine, and to focus on controlling what we can and the rest will come to us as it is meant to.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love this little beach town so much! Not only do we have some great beaches, but we have incredible views all over the city, hiking trails, camping, restaurants, bars, breweries, so many shops with local brands and clothing, and more. I can honestly say that everyone who calls this city home is proud to be able to. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are honestly so many people in my story who deserve a shoutout! All of the amazingly smart and strong bosses I’ve had over the years who have taken the time to mentor me, teach me, and who have given me the tools and support to grow as a professional. I take pride in the fact that I have solely worked for female business owners while on my journey, and I hope to be someone who can one-day help guide and support women on their professional journeys. I’d also like to thank my loved ones who have given me IMMENSE amounts of support and hugs when I’ve needed them. You’re only as good as the people you surround yourself with, and I have a very special and impressive group in my life.
