We had the good fortune of connecting with Amy Boyer Colgan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amy Boyer, what role has risk played in your life or career?
The more that my career has grown the more that I’ve seen that my comfort zone as well, has to grow. I’ve realized that a dream can be birthed in a comfort zone, but it can never be accomplished in that comfort zone of mine. The solution, the adventure, the growth all take place outside this ever growing Comfort zone of mine. Things I’ve realized about risking moving out of my comfort zone: it is always uncomfortable, it never gets easier, and my dream is always on the other side of that invisible wall of fear. I choose to not be bound by that invisible wall but rather walk through with boldness or what I like to call ‘shameless audacity’. Whenever I come up against a situation that I realize that my comfort zone needs to grow I Dare myself (sometimes double dog dare)….. I always writing this to myself before taking a risk: ‘Dare I ask for my dreams. Dare I see the imagination of the soul. Dare I risk! What if I ask and receive? So then, I risk. I’ll ask: May I impact this planet and those dwelling in it for good, growth, peace and cooperative love.’

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started my Instagram accounts @vegantrailblazer and @crazytrailblazer for my son because I was dying from a horrific illness… The account was a place for me to leave him memories and wisdom… and recipes… then an incredible miracle happened…I healed (I write about it at www.crazytrailblazers.com). Or you can follow our journey on Facebook at ‘Crazy Trailblazers’ and ‘Vegan Trailblazer’. These accounts have now became more about me relearning life and enjoying every moment ❤

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Let’s explore Long Beach California together. The morning we would wake up and hit the Vibes Café on the Long Beach Peninsula accompanied by a stroll on the bay and a little kayaking or paddle boarding around Naples Island. In the afternoon we would take a stroll down to Shoreline Village and the Pike then hop on the aqua bus which only costs one dollar per rides and head to the Queen Mary for a stroll and drinks in the bar. From there I would hop on the aqua link which is a five dollar boat ride and take that to Los Alamitos bay. Then there are about five or six restaurants to choose from right on the water with the best selections of food and drinks. I would then hop back on the aqua link and take it back to Shoreline Village. Then I would head over to the Plunge for some amazing appetizers and incredible view and superb drinks which includes a kombucha bar. And then for dinner I would head to the bluebird Café for the most decadent, beautiful and scrumptious vegan sushi.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
