We had the good fortune of connecting with Anastasiia Horban and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Anastasiia, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I’m from Ukraine. All my life I was dreaming about restaurant or other food related business. I got my Hotel and Restaurant management master degree, but still accepted job at non food related company. 7 years I spend going up my career in big industry of recycling and ecology. I became a CEO of 3 international headquarters, but felt that I’m not in the right place. After war in Ukraine has started, we moved to the USA, where I got opportunity to make my dream come true.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
When I arrived to the USA I had no idea what I will do here for work. I knew that I love cooking and I was planning to help families with preparing their dinners and lunches at home. But luckily, one of my sister’s friend was seeking for babyshower caterer, and that was my lucky day. I had no portfolio, no menu, no website and even no equipment and packaging. But, I made a perfect concept offer and chose me. It was a success, so I found more clients for my business just serving my first order. What I did next? I did my business plan, goals and started advertising myself as the caterer. With each and every order I learned my future business from the very beginning, I did mistakes – then analyzed them and generated ideas how to avoid them in future. I cut my finger, when I was in hurry to finish my order, that thought me a big lesson about time management. This way wasn’t easy, but I enjoyed every moment.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would spend everyday at the ocean. Beach is the place where people are free and inspired. Sunrise and sunsets are the biggest inspiration and source of great ideas. Regarding, where to eat? Of course, at my place. I love hosting and I won’t give any restaurant an opportunity to stole it)
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Yes, I have to say a big ‘Thank you’ to my family for their support and help. When I just started my business I had to do everything on my own. So my husband was folding the boxes and delivering the orders. My sister and niece were helping in cooking and serving. Sister’s husband was helping with legal part of business and creating a website, etc. So, there is no HORBOX catering without my beloved family.
