We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrew Fox and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Andrew, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I realized at a young age that I was not cut out for the traditional “go to school, get a job” track a lot of people take. Nothing against that or people that do take that traditional path, I just knew it wasn’t for me. I’ve always been trying to find a way to combine my love of entrepreneurship and Music, and YouTube seems like the perfect platform to allow me to work for myself, create content and Music that I love and thats wholly mine, and I’m just super excited and grateful to be on the platform and building a community and a business that I can grow with in the future. Find me on YouTube at “The Andrew Fox Music Channel”!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I like to think I have a super simple, clean, and easy way of doing Music. Usually its just me with a guitar, maybe some effects (I do LOVE my loop pedal), but the kind of Music that I love making the best is Music that comes from the soul. Not to belittle anyone or any kind of style of Music…. but I think a lot of Music nowadays is more about cool effects, interesting sounds…. things computers make… rather than just some guy or some girl with an instrument and something they want to express. I like to think that Im trying to take Music back to its roots. Simple songs that express something. Something you can hear once or twice and want to sing along with. I want people to be able to FEEL what I am feeling when I sing or play. Im a firm believer that Music should be felt like right below the sternum… sort of in that spot where the stomach ends and the chest starts. Thats where the Soul of Music lives to me. If I can make someone feel it right there… I’ve done a god job in my book.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love the beach but hate the water. Maybe some of y’all can resonate with that. But I love being outside. I love a good breeze. Im a sucker for a good patio spot. Tapas… good cocktails… live Music…. Thats my idea of a good time. Anything with tacos. Margaritas. Attractive humans. Karaoke is a must for me. Thats been a little (a lot) harder with Covid… but things are slowly getting back to normal. Get vaccinated and lets put this thing BEHIND US! I want to perform again!!! I digress. Dive bars are a favorite of mine, theres just something so charming about them with the low ceilings and bad lighting. I try not to spend too much time in Los Angeles, not super into the whole “LA Vibe”. More of a San Diego/San Francisco (yes I know they are vastly different) kind of guy. My best friend and I like to take day trips up to Santa Barbara for wine tasting or breweries. Theres this one taco spot in the Funk Zone called Monys…. Goodness gracious, let me tell you. My mouth is watering even thinking about them.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
This is a great question. I first off want to thank my parents for getting me a guitar and guitar lessons when I was in 6th grade, back in 2005, that was the first real step towards building my Music career and business. So thanks Mom and Dad. But maybe even more importantly I need to thank my guitar and Music heroes that shaped me into the person I am today. Angus and Malcom Young. Jimi Hendrix. Randy Rhoads. All of The Beatles. Like, especially The Beatles. No way I am the person I am today without The Beatles. So every opportunity I get to thank The Beatles, I do it. Also, my first (and only) guitar teacher Tim. I was only with him for a few months, but he taught me what I needed to teach myself, and he set me on a path that I am super grateful for. Also, every friend thats ever come to a gig, every friendly stranger who said something nice to me at karaoke, every subscriber on YouTube, all the individuals Ive had the opportunity and pleasure to jam or perform with… Y’all the real MVPS.
