Meet Angel Acevedo | Independent Podcast Producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Angel Acevedo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Angel, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I’m a fan of movies. Love watching them in theaters, at home, with family and friends, and even alone. But I also love watching movie trailers – previews for upcoming movies. I listen to and enjoy a handful of movie podcasts where they discuss entire films. My friend Evan was visiting from New York doing work on my couch. I booted up YouTube on the TV and started showing him some trailers asking if he’s seen them or what he thought of them. I mentioned to him it would be fun to discuss and breakdown movie trailers to see if it’s something I would watch or skip in a podcast format. Evan then said “Lets do it!”
After thinking about it for a couple of weeks, I said alright, lets give it a shot. So we recorded two episodes and the rest is history.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My career has primarily been in tv/film/commercial post production. I’ve worked in a variety of roles such as QC technician, assistant editor, post supervisor, up to Head of Post Production at YouTube. I’ve worked on shows direclty or supported them from working at post facilities. I also produced independent films and internet content on side, but those creative ventures took a bit of a back seat as I landed more senior type roles that demanded more of my attention and when my family started growing (2 kids).
After being impacted by industry strikes and layoffs, I wanted to do something different. The podcast space was growing and it definitely piqued my interest. I’ve worked on feature films, television series, and commercials, but never on audio podcasts, which is why I’m excited about exploring a different area of content creation. I like the challenge of figuring out something new, experimenting, and collaborating with others.
Although this project is more of a hobby than a business right now, I’ve been treating it like a start up by defining workflows and setting up systems to help the creative and operations process.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh this is tough. Lots of great places to check out here in Los Angeles.
I’m a fan of the classics, so here’s a few off the top of my head I like to frequent and bring friends/family to:
*Barney’s Beanery (original in WEHO) – great centralish spot to catch up with friends over a beer, also can’t go wrong with their famous footlong chili dog.
*Dan Tana’s – hands down, best chicken parm – also a chill, classic vibe and service
*Smoke House – another Hollywood classic; not pretentious, food and service are great. Also, can’t go wrong with red leather seating.
*Jon & Vinny’s – I never want to hear that LA doesn’t have good pizza. There is great pizza here and this is my go to place for date night.
*Studio tour: either Warner Brothers, Paramount, or Sony – love the history and behind the scenes stuff
*Malibu beaches – even though I live 2 miles from the beach in the southbay, I like hitting a Malibu beach at least once in the summer, make a day out of it and grab a Mai Tai at Duke’s on the way home.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to shoutout my wife, Beth, and friends who have supported our podcast either by listening and sharing with others. Every little stream or download goes a long way.
