We had the good fortune of connecting with Angela Friis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Angela, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I originally started my company as a way to heal myself through my own personal difficulties in life,  love and loss. I threw myself into work, always being a creative spirit and wanting to make a difference in the lives of others. I started thinking about opening a business to keep my mind busy, my anxiety at bay and fill my time while making a living to pay for me and my kids. I got to brainstroming and decided since I’ve had many jobs, what could I do or create that spoke of who I was. I was a huge animal lover, worked in the entertainment industry for years both behind and in front of the camera. I have worked w goats as a wrangler and even a stylist,, so where to go next with it all? Finding a logi, I chose the goat as a symbol for my logo because goats aid one in self belief and self esteem, which after all I have gone through was lacking in that area. I started taking photos of me working with goats , goat adventures,  outtakes from being on sets, and inspirational quotes and would donate money each paycheck to various animal charities. I began feeling my spirit getting lighter, my self esteem was coming back and  people were beginning to follow, private message  tag me in posts and tell me how much they looked forward to my goat stuff. I then bought a goat in Chicago,  since this is where I was originally from and the rest is history. The Mending Muse (goats) began getting bookings for events, working with various charities,  organizations, fitness studios, corporate and even Skype and cameos. We we’re even noticed even by ABC as one of the most inspiring businesses during Covid. What keeps me going is the passion, my love for what I’m doing and the way it makes others feel. I don’t mind the long hours, my heart is fully vested, I’ve had people not show up for work and yet managed to make a room of 100 happy, how?  others can feel that when we walk into a room our love our passion and our ability to make others smile. We are giving back and helping our community with each event we do, we give back a percentage to a charity in need. The goats make me smile, help push me to believing in myself and in turn , I can help others find their light or as I like to say , we bring the bahhs to your blahhs. We all have the ability to heal one another, were all connected and all can begin to make a positive ripple affect, just take it one hoof step at a time.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business is a goat therapy, inspirational company. There are numerous goat yoga , goat companies out there bit I think what sets us apart is were always trying new things, giving back to the community. Education, connecting people to nature and themselves and truly loving what we do. We have many obstacles as a business owner, from learning the ropes, getting licenses, insurances to finding Goats, finding housing, running a business out of state. I learned to do things yourself, never depend on others, and when you do make sure if a person can not come through you can still show up with excitement, passion and love. Make sure you lead with your heart and if you do need help ask. Don’t be afraid to miss a night out or a social engagement to do work. It’s long hours , it’s always thinking, dreaming and implementing new ways to do things, it’s business first, it becomes a way of life. It’s learning from mistakes and growing and constantly being out there promoting your business, utilizing social media and remembering Word of mouth is always your best advertisement.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
For me when friends come to visit, we will always visit wally and his farm friends he resides at Nature’s Trail Yoga. I also am a huge fan of Cooper Hawks Restaurant. Or you can find me going into the city’s lakefront area. Or if we’re real lucky a Cubs game. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Party Goats LA, Pippin from Party Goats was the Goat who changed my life and helped bring back my smile.

All my friends, kids, and family, my solid tribe, and trusted people but these are the people that have always been there to listen, help, support, and cheer me on without judgment even if they didn’t always get the vision they understood me as a person, and stood in love.

My Dad, Lori, Amy, Auntie, and my Aunts, Lauralee, Sandy, Alyssa, Cheryl, Mckee, Shelly, Charolette, Carrie, Cerlette, Val, Patty, Phara, and Mel, and Raymond, and a few others for always being there with love, encouragement, friendship, and truths no matter what.

What a list of great people I am blessed to have, Thank you!

The best piece of advice I have know your circle, if they don’t support you or your visions or push you into your best version of yourself they are not your people. Your people will always want the best for you.
You become like the 5 people you hang around with, chose wisely
Thanks to Sue Savage for great advice and Emdr Therapy, which I highly recommend for any type of trauma healing.

and of course, Wally my goat, always brings a smile and helps make a difference in the community and Nature’s Trail Yoga for partnering and taking such great care of Wally and having the same visions as I do.
