We had the good fortune of connecting with Anne Stedman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Anne, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind the success of Chic Mama LA is being flexible and open to change but making sure to always stick to the core principles of the brand. When I created Chic Mama LA back in 2008, I wanted to start a brand that was all about celebrating moms and making them feel special and appreciated. A lot has changed in 12 years in terms of technology and how to build the brand. When I started the brand, blogs were the most powerful online tools, and now it’s all about Instagram and YouTube, so I had to evolve a bit. I went from just blogging about great fashion brands that were on point for moms, to creating video content including two digital series on YouTube (Chic Mama Drama and Chic Mama Carpool). I also just launched my first ever Chic Mama branded clothing line for moms. I’m starting simple with cute t-shirts and hoodies but I’m super excited about expanding that out and seeing where it goes. But at the end of the day, everything I do is catered around making moms feeling good about themselves.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have a lot of avenues to express my artistic side. Whether it’s acting, writing or designing, I love it all. It helps to keep me balanced. A lot of times with art, there are moments where it subsides in one area so it’s nice to be able to go to something else to keep my creative flow going. That is why I’m so grateful Chic Mama LA constantly allows me to grow artistically.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When visiting Los Angeles, my must go to places are The Getty, hit up Malibu beach (Nubo sushi is a must while you are there), Griffith Observatory, shopping on Melrose Place, The Broad museum, Amoeba Music, Chateau Marmont, see a musical performance at the Hollywood bowl, go see a Dodger or Lakers game, hiking at San Vicente Mountain Park and dinner at the Sunset Tower. So excited to do any of these again when Coronavirus is over!!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
A shout out to my husband Michael Herwick and brother Jim Stedman who always have my back. So much of what Chic Mama LA is couldn’t have been done without them.
I have the right to these photos.
