Meet Aolani Coban | Spiritualist, Writer & Movement Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Aolani Coban and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Aolani, do you disagree with some advice that is more or less universally accepted?
That’s a great question! One piece of conventional advice that I disagree with is that you have to be constant. I believe that you have to be consistent with your work. Being consistent means acting or behaving in the same way, or having the same standards. Consistent means that you are dependable, logical, persistent, rational, steady, and true. Consistency means that you have faith and belief in yourself and your journey and you understand that no matter the time, your manifestations will come to fruition because you stay the course.
Constant is the idea of continuous occurrence without stopping. When you hear creatives or entrepreneurs say “You have to post or create content every day,” it comes with this idealistic pressure that something must be getting done at all times. However, we are creatures of existence, not of doing. And most of our inspiration to create comes from the life we are actively living. There is no content to be had if you’re not outside in life!
Life is about balance. Ups and downs, lefts and rights, yin and yang, ebbs and flows. When you are working you are burning energy, and there will come an inevitable time when you will have to stop working in order to recharge your soul. Burnout can happen mentally, emotionally, physically, or Spiritually. Yet, if you’re stuck in the mindset that you constantly have to be doing, you’ll lose touch with yourself, with your life, with your art, and with the Universe around you. Loving what you do means loving yourself and loving yourself means having a healthy work-life balance,
Good things take time. That which happens fast never lasts. So if there’s one piece of conventional advice that I disagree with, it is that you have to be constant when creating.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My career in the arts began at age 7 when I started dancing. Dance, the gift of energetic transmutation through the body, was a gift given to me by God. I pursued dance fervently through the age of 25 using it as my reason to travel, study, and meet new people. Dance and the art of movement have taken me to places in my body that have elevated my mind and soul. Though dance came naturally to me, it wasn’t always easy.
Being a plus-sized dancer often came with preconceived notions about my abilities, which in turn hindered the growth of my confidence and self-esteem. Oftentimes I would remove myself from places and spaces so as not to be seen and face possible rejection. For many years I struggled with this internal battle of knowing my worth but not feeling it; so much so that I stopped dancing for a while to pursue my career as a content creator.
I started content creation in 2021 as an avenue to express some of my other passions such as writing, traveling, cooking, and reading. What I learned in this focus shift is that there will be struggle in all things. There will be change, there will be learning and relearning, adjustments to be made, and baby steps to grow through in all parts of my journey. The key is to enjoy the journey!
I’m very proud of the growth of my brand since its conception. Even being able to have this interview! It’s a testimony that consistency and faith work hand in hand. What I really want the world to know about my brand and story is that it is very authentic! I take pride in growing out loud and being an activist for radical joy and healing, I am trying new things, learning new things, and changing every day.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love this question because I love traveling! I tend to have a similar itinerary no matter where I go. There has to be a nature day where we check out some of the trails, waterfalls, mountains, canyons, or whatever nature has to offer there. I live in South Carolina so places like Sumter National Park have amazing waterfalls and trails. There has to be a museum or zoo day just to take an opportunity to learn about the place you are visiting. If you’re traveling abroad and can’t find a museum, spending the day in an old local town and getting to learn history from the locals is always a plus. There has to be an adventure day! Zip-lining, snowboarding, amusement parks, or anything the city has to offer that is just pure exhilarating fun. Here in South Carolina, we have an amusement park called Carowinds that borders North Carolina and has one of the biggest rollercoasters in the Southeast region! Last but certainly not least there has to be a night, or two, dedicated to nightlife. A nice rooftop party, a themed dance club, or an event that requires a little extra effort in the dress and fashion department is an absolute must. Blu Nightclub in Greenville, SC is a must if you’re in the area. Aside from that eating and sleeping are always the best parts of a vacation!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Oh, man! There are SO many wonderful people who have encouraged, inspired, motivated, and helped me along my journey. I’ve been blessed to be surrounded by amazing teachers, mentors, friends, and family my entire life. To try and name them all would mean I would certainly forget a few, but the most influential person in my story is my mother. There are no words to describe how beautiful, intentional, caring, loving, and wise my mother is. Not only in my life but the lives of all those who come in contact with her.
My mother encourages me, she pushes me, she gives me wise counsel amongst other things. More than anything my mother has been the catalyst and advocate for my healing journey. She is the reason why I have pursued health and healing, content creation, professional dance, writing, and so many other of my passions. She reminds me of the joy in life. She keeps me grounded. She keeps me accountable. She gives me clarity. I trust her with every fiber of my being and for her I am inspired to be a little better every day!
