We had the good fortune of connecting with Appelusa and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Appelusa, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When I began to heal after four years in chronic pain from MVA related injuries, it was from applying complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) therapies that I was finally able to heal. The three years prior I suffered from 24/7 headaches and muscle spasms, countless scans and doctor visits, invasive procedures, and medication overload -none of which helped ease the pain. I became Reiki certified and started my journey into self healing. Once I began to feel the subtle but powerful effects of energy healing, I became enthralled with energy, frequency, physics and quantum mechanics. I fell down the rabbit hole as I continued to heal. I purchased an Electro-Chirogram Biofeedback system which uses the reflex zones on your hand to assess the vitality of 49 glands, organs, and brain parameters including reading the aura and chakra balance, and became certified as a technician. I then became Biofield Tuning and Vibrational Fascia Release Technique certified and all my chronic pain became obsolete. So in long, I started my business to help others who may be in a similar experience, to promote self healing techniques, and for anyone who is curious about sound healing, the biofield, and energy work.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
As a synesthete, an individual who experiences a rare neurological trait in which one or more of the five senses fire at the same time, one of my types of synesthesia is the ability to see aura’s around people and things. I have never seen a way to use this ability in anything other than through artistic expression. Being Biofeedback certified, I can use my device to show others what I see, their electromagnetic field. They can also see their chakra balance, or how their energy is being used. We can also assess every gland and organ’s energy level. This is a great tool for also assessing how an individual’s energy changes before and after energy or sound healing work, during meditation or chanting, and how positive and negative thoughts affect the body, mind, and spirit on an energetic level. Being able to share this visual feedback with others is what excites me most about opening my practice. My practice officially began in January 2020, basically at the start of the pandemic. My biggest challenge has been seeing clients, because- I haven’t been able to! I began offering free Distance Group Biofield Tuning Sessions through social media platforms weekly for those who needed self care. I was initially skeptical that people wouldn’t be interested in booking distance sessions as the concept of remote healing, and energy work in general is still considered woo-woo, even though studies prove otherwise. But I started receiving bookings for one-on-one distance sessions through my website, and realized that those who seek healing will find it, and that the testimonials of the thousands of people who have experienced healing from distance sessions over the years must account for something.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Because I love nature, camping at Leo Carrillo or Sycamore Beach would be near the top of my list. Eating at Neptune’s Net because it’s a staple, and maybe stopping at Rosenthal’s or Malibu Family Wine for wine tasting. Venice is of course a great day for people watching. Because I am a professional roller skater, I would want to do a skate night at either Skateland, my family owned skating center, or Moonlight Rollerway, another classic gem. Speaking of gem, in that area is also Crystal Matrix in Atwater Village and evening comedy at UCB in Franklin Village. If you can manage to snag tickets for Jeff Goldblum and his band The Mildred Snitzer Orchestra at The Rockwell, you are in for a treat. But unfortunately, I have never been that lucky..
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First off, to make what seems like a major negative life event into a positive life experience, I would thank the powers that be for teaching me that I can heal myself. The teachers and mentors that followed would be April Corley for your continued friendship and support and creating a space for my Reiki I certification. Patricia Asheme Bankins for being a continued mentor, as my Reiki II teacher, and idol in creating a successful healing business. Lorrin McCormick, LMFT, for introducing me to Patricia’s work at the Crystal Matrix, and many other healing modalities. Elaine Reid for your friendship and introduction to Biofield Tuning (BFT). Which leads me to Biofield Tuning and BFT founder Eileen McCusick and all the BFT and VFRT teachers, for your pioneering into biofield research and sharing your expertise with the world. Then of course I can’t forget to thank Deepak Chopra, Donna Eden, Dr. Bruce Lipton, Dr. Joe Dispenza, Dr. Sue Morter, the Consciousness Healing Initiative (CHI), and the Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS) for your books, techniques, and profound research into energy, energy healing, and consciousness.
